Anglo American Species Conservation Grant (Brazil, Chile, and Peru)

Call for Applications: Turtle Conservation Fund Grant Program

Deadline: 5 June 2020

Anglo American is seeking to support the conservation of threatened and endemic species and habitat types in line with its Sustainable Mining Plan. Anglo American is inviting suitably qualified Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs) or academic institutions to submit Expressions of Interest in this regard.

Anglo American supports the future of sustainable mining and starting now they are addressing critical challenges of safety, productivity, and the way they use land, energy, and water. As global population grows, this leads to a greater demand for minerals and metals, core components of products and services that are essential to human progress.

Anglo American’s mining activities have footprints and frequently require development of associated infrastructure, which have both direct and indirect impacts on the natural environment. These impacts include habitat loss and impacts on the behaviour and ecology of species. Biodiversity underpins ecosystem services, on which people and Anglo American depend. Failure to manage and support biodiversity can therefore create risks to Anglo American from both an operational perspective, but also from loss of reputation, trust and social acceptability.
