The City of Mississauga is accepting applications from eligible organizations for its Small Project Matching Grant 2021 that provides funds to Registered Groups in good standing with the City of Mississauga’s Community Group Registry Program Policy (08-01-01).
Eligible projects will strengthen neighbourhoods, increase resident engagement, and enhance opportunities for Mississauga residents to participate at the neighbourhood level.
Types of Projects
This grant is available for new initiatives or projects focused on the theme “by the community for the community” that can:
- Strengthen neighbourhoods
- Increase resident engagement
- Support participation in events and activities at the neighbourhood level
2021 Theme: Stronger
The community continues to show strength as it faces the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic. The City’s Registered Groups are known to be creative in developing ideas that connect and engage neighbourhoods, even during the pandemic. Together will help make Mississauga even stronger. Here are some ideas to get started:
- Implement alternatives to traditional activities that may not be possible due to pandemic restrictions
- Engage new audiences including youth, newcomers and older adults
- Outreach and engage new people in activities, especially those that may face barriers to participation
- Implement a project in partnership with another organization
- Support age-friendly communities
- Neighbourhood learning that allows residents to enhance knowledge and develop new skills around areas of mutual interest
- Neighbourhood activities that allow residents to get to know one another and make connections
Funding Information
- An amount from $250- $2,500 can be requested to support a specific new initiative that is outside of the normal range of activity for the applicant that can be implemented and completed in 2021.
Eligibility Criteria
- The Small Project Matching Grants Program is only open to Registered Groups that are in good standing with the City (e.g. no outstanding debts to the City and status has been renewed annually) under the Community Group Registry Program policy (08-01-01).
- Applications may be submitted by informal groups of residents or other community groups, if the project is sponsored by a Registered Group in good standing with the City. The sponsoring group is responsible for ensuring the application is submitted and completing the final report.

Additional Eligibility Requirements:
- Applicants will be required to demonstrate alignment with pandemic-related measures in place at the time that their application is submitted;
- Applicants may be required to provide a detailed safety plan closer to the date of their project as a condition of funding;
- Project must be outside of the normal range of activity for the applicant (e.g. a new or pilot initiative). Please note groups may not apply for the same project that was funded in a previous year through the SPMG program.
- Applicant has not received funding from the City within the same calendar year;
- Applicant can upload signed financial statements from their last Annual General Meeting;
- Sponsoring organization can only sponsored two other group within the same calendar year, however, limited exceptions may be considered;
- Project is open to residents and an admission or program registration fee is not being charged;
- Project will be completed and funding will be spent within the calendar year in which it is being requested; and
- Applicant must demonstrate compliance with Health and Safety measures and any provincial orders.
