Humanities Washington is honored to provide rapid-response funding to humanities organizations facing financial hardship as a result of the coronavirus. Funding for this grant is provided by the CARES Act and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Humanities Washington is committed to equitable grantmaking and considers geographic diversity and the importance of reaching underrepresented communities in its funding decisions.
Priorities
- Intended to support cultural organizations who provide humanities programming who are facing hardship due to closures and economic impacts related to the coronavirus.
- Organizations serving and led by members of communities traditionally under-resourced in the humanities are encouraged to apply.
- These groups include people of color, people who identify as LGBTQ+, people who live in rural areas, people with disabilities, people who identify as immigrants or refugees, and people whose first (or only) language is not English. (Please note that this is not an exhaustive list.)
Funding Information
- Grants of up to $5,000 for non-profit organizations across Washington State who provide humanities and cultural programming and are facing financial hardship due to the coronavirus.
- Grants are available for general operating expenses or specific projects.
- No funding match is required. If organizations are raising additional funds for relief, they may ask for that information in final reports.
Eligibility Criteria
- 501(c)(3) organizations registered in Washington, including those affiliated with tribal organizations.
- Organizations experiencing financial hardship due to the effects of the coronavirus. Hardship includes, but is not limited to:
- permanent closure
- loss of paid staff
- loss of venue or workspace
- loss of significant revenue
- Not eligible: individuals; for-profit organizations; organizations without paid staff; organizations solely focused on the arts (please contact the Washington State Arts Commission for information on their relief grants); political or advocacy organizations; or government agencies, universities, colleges, academic departments, or entities with significant public funding.
