Applications are now open for the Lauren Townsend Memorial Wildlife Fund to inspire people and mobilize resources to strengthen their community.
The Lauren Townsend Memorial Wildlife Fund was established in 1999 by the family of Lauren Townsend, a vibrant and inspiring young woman who was a class valedictorian and co-captain of the girls’ volleyball team at Columbine High School.
Lauren was one of 13 victims killed in the shootings on April 20,1999. The fund awards grants to nonprofit organizations that focus on animal welfare or wildlife preservation.
Funding Information
- Grants from the fund range from $500 – $5,000 and the fund typically awards a total of $15,000 – $20,000 annually.
Eligibility Criteria
Applications are open to organizations that meet the below criteria. Smaller nonprofits organizations are particularly encouraged to apply.
- Organizations with United States 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status.
- Organizations with a focus on animal welfare or wildlife preservation.
- Organizations seeking funding for a specific project or program.
- United States 501(c)(3) Organizations must not exceed the maximum of $250,000 in annual operational revenue for the most recent fiscal year.
- Organizations based in the United States including those with projects operating internationally.
- The fund does not award grants for:
- Administrative expenses (including salaries and other general operating costs).
- Lobbying activities.
Note: If in the last three years they have been awarded two or more grants from the Lauren Townsend Memorial Wildlife Fund, they are not eligible for funding this year. They are welcome to reapply in the next year’s funding cycle.
