The Ministry for Primary Industries is accepting applications for its Sustainable Farming Fund to support projects that tackle shared community issues or progress opportunities like building resilient rural communities, adapting to climate change and reducing environmental footprints.
The Sustainable Farming Fund (SFF) invests in applied research and projects led by farmers, growers, or foresters. Projects deliver economic, environmental and social benefits to New Zealand.
Benefits
- A project must deliver all, or at least two, of the following benefits to New Zealand:
- Economic benefits
- Environmental benefits
- Social benefits.
- These benefits should be easily defined and quantified in applicants’ application. Successful applications often demonstrate strong sector and industry support, collaboration, financial support or a combination of all.
- Projects must have a minimum of 20% of co-funding provided via the applicant group, interested parties or a combination of both.
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible projects include:
- applied research;
- technology transfer and extension activities;
- field trials and demonstration sites.
- A project must:
- be farmer, grower, or forester led and clearly demonstrate their involvement both in the project and the project team;
- be conducted in New Zealand and benefit New Zealand primary industries;
- contribute at least 20% of the total project cost from the applicant group and/or industry parties;
- not exceed $200,000 per annum and may run for up to 3 years;
- reflect all, or at least two, of the following benefits: economic, environmental, social.
- A project isn’t eligible if it:
- is requesting capital expenditure;
- is fundamental research;
- benefits an individual or single business;
- is commercially focused or looks to develop a commercial product to sell;
- involves work already underway;
- primarily benefits participants outside New Zealand.
