Apply for CKDN’s Research Call on Climate Resilient Cities in Latin America!

Climate Change

Deadline: 13 June 2016

The Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CKDN), the International Development Research Centre of Canada (IDRC) and Fundación Futuro Latinoamericano (FFLA) is currently inviting applications for its Research Call on Climate Resilient Cities in Latin America with an aim to focus on climate resilience in urban contexts, and specifically on small and medium cities in Latin America that are experiencing rapid growth. The program expect to fund around six projects of between 12 – 21 months duration.

Latin America’s population is already predominantly urban, and this trend is ongoing; in absolute terms the urban population will increase significantly over the coming decades. The bulk of urban growth in the region is taking place in small and medium cities. As these cities grow, they have an important opportunity to steer their development along a climate-resilient pathway. Thoughtful and innovative planning is critical in order to avoid challenges faced by larger cities such as poor air quality, access to water, sanitation and other services, and new risks created by settlement growth in hazard-prone areas and risk-blind decision making.
