The Government of Canada is accepting applications for the Investments in Training Equipment Stream.
The Union Training and Innovation Program (UTIP) supports the Government of Canada’s commitment to strengthen union-based apprenticeship training, innovation and enhanced partnerships. The program has two streams:
- The Investments in Training Equipment Stream supports cost-shared purchases of equipment and materials for training (union-led).
- The Innovation in Apprenticeship Stream supports innovative approaches to address challenges that limit apprenticeship outcomes (union involvement required).
Objective
This application process is intended to fund projects that will strengthen training in the trades to better support a skilled, inclusive, certified and productive trades workforce in order to achieve the following objectives:
- To increase investment in up-to-date training equipment and materials for higher quality training, leading to a more skilled and productive trades workforce;
- Where applicable, to improve the participation and success of key groups in trades training and careers (including women, Indigenous people, newcomers, persons with disabilities, and visible minorities/racialized persons); and
- Where applicable, to enhance broad-based partnerships between organizations (e.g. with employers, community/non-profit groups, and educational institutions and other training providers).
Funding Information
- The project must be a minimum of 36 months in duration and must not exceed 60 months.
- The amount requested from ESDC cannot exceed $5,000,000 per year per project.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible:
- Applicants must be a:
- union (including local union organization) representing workers in the Red Seal Trades; and
- organization managing training trust funds (for example, a joint training trust fund set up by a union or by a union and an employer association).
- The project must target Red Seal Trades, and its activities must support the purchase of up-to-date equipment and/or materials for the purpose of training.
- Once the equipment and/or materials are available for training, they have demonstrated that a minimum of 24 months are dedicated to data collection and reporting activities.
- Please remember that Québec organizations are not eligible to apply for funding.
