The Habitat Young Leaders Build (HYLB) is calling for proposals from participating National Organizations to apply to receive advocacy grants.
The specific aim of the grants to support and contribute to young people’s advocacy efforts on engaging on housing policy and related during this year’s HYLB period.
Apart from directly constructing houses, Habitat for Humanity believes that policies, practices, and attitudes affect efforts on fulfilling requirements for adequate. Habitat also sincerely believes are equally affected, that they have ideas and suggestions to offer to decision makers on making housing more affordable and access. Through this initiative, young people will be encouraged and supported to share their ideas. These ideas can be presented in various forms and will be presented to policy and decision makers.
Thematic Areas
While the intention is not to prescribe activities as to what young people can come up with, there are some guidelines to assist us in making the most out the grants. Thus, this year’s grants will support advocacy activities that aim to impact policies by influencing decision makers, or change practice or systems so that more people in Asia and Pacific region can access to land for housing. Supported activitiesmay approach this by tackling any of the themes below:
- Security of tenure – Which ensures that everyone can live on land without fear that they will be moved without a good reason or an alternative
- Gender and property rights- is where the law, policies or norms make it possible for both men and women to own land or other property
- Slum upgrading- An assurance that local or national regulations give an opportunity for people living in slums to have secure tenure

Objectives
In essence, the aim is to:
- Incentivize young people to undertake policy-oriented advocacy activities during and the HYLB campaign period
- Motivate more young people who participate in HYLB to become advocates on housing issues, leveraging their participation in the event as potential for advocacy
- Encourage young people to raise their voices on public policy issues on land and housing
- Use the opportunity for young people to make policy asks in the way that is suitable for them using various means
Grant Size
Each grant will be worth $250. Applicants may present more than one application for consideration.
Eligibility Criteria
- Only applicants from the Asia and Pacific countries and where Habitat has a presence will be eligible to access these grants.
- Proposals should be as clearly, creative and aim at engaging in policy change.
- Applicants should reflect what young people want to see change.
