The Northern New York Community Foundation is accepting applications for its George R. Davis Fund to benefit the citizens of the Village and Town of Lowville.

Community Foundation grants are awarded to support programs and projects that are responsive to the evolving needs of the region in areas that include: human services, health and wellness, arts and culture, education, families and youth, conservation and environment, community development, recreation and more.

Grant proposals are evaluated based on the quality of planning, leadership, support, funding available for disbursement, passion and vision clearly expressed in the application.

The Honourable George R. Davis passed away in February 2010 after living almost his entire life in Lowville, New York.  Judge Davis, as he was known, served for 20 years as Lewis County Judge from 1962 to 1983.

George was active in civic affairs throughout his life with a particular interest in local history including the history of Lowville Academy where his father served as supervising principal for over 35 years.
