The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is currently seeking applications for its “Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)” that is focused on improving the quality and efficiency of operations and processes within the SNAP office. Specifically, FNS is interested in initiatives that use new technologies or examine office processes in order to improve application processing timeliness for initial or recertification applications.
Purpose
The purpose of this grant competition is to support efforts by State agencies and their community-based and faith-based partners to develop and implement:
- Simple SNAP application and eligibility determination systems; or
- Measures to improve access to SNAP benefits by eligible applicants.
Priority Areas
The grant competition described in this RFA specifically encourages applicants to respond to the following priority areas:
- Modernization and Innovation of Office Operations,
- Improved Customer Service, and
- Increased Efficiencies in Case Management.
Funding Information
Funding per award is dependent on the availability of funding and the number of awards granted. It is anticipated that funding per award can range from a low of $20,000 to a high of $2,000,000.
Eligibility Criteria
The entities eligible to receive grants under this competition are:
- The 53 State agencies that administer the SNAP;
- State or local governments;
- Agencies providing health or welfare services;
- Public health or educational entities; and
- Private nonprofit entities such as community-based or faith-based organizations, food banks, or other emergency feeding organizations.
