The Arts Promotion Centre Finland is inviting proposals for the Grants for Mobility to promote the international mobility and networking of artists and art experts living in Finland.
Grants for mobility are intended to cover the costs of trips abroad. These trips must be connected to projects that are significant artistically or in terms of a specific artform, and in connection with which the applicant shall either:
- Appear or present his/her art outside of Finland;
- Work at an artist residence;
- Develop his or her own work;
- Promote the working environment within the artform.
Grants for mobility may be used to cover the costs of trips abroad insofar as other funding is not available. If the project is canceled due to the exceptional situation caused by the coronavirus after the grant has been awarded, the applicant must contact the Arts Promotion Centre Finland. In such cases, the grant may be used to promote the internationalization of the applicant’s own artistic activities in other ways.
Funding Information
- Grants for mobility are generally awarded for the amounts of 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000 or 5000 euros. Grants awarded to working groups may be for larger amounts.
- Grants amounting to less than 1000 euros are generally not awarded.
Eligibility Criteria
- Grants for mobility are intended for professional artists or working groups formed by them, as well as for experts in different fields of the arts, who are residents of Finland.
- These grants are intended for private individuals and not for communities. Private persons carrying on trade (private traders – toiminimi) may also apply.
Decision-Making Criteria
The awarding of grants is based on a comparison and overall assessment of applications. When evaluating applications, the following three criteria and questions are used, not all of which need to be fulfilled. There is no weighting in the decision-making criteria. The regional distribution and language of applicants are taken into consideration, as is the amount of available funding. Equality and fair treatment are also taken into account. All grants are discretionary.
- Previous artistic merits of the applicant
- Is the applicant a professional? Are the members of the working group professionals?
- What is the quality of the applicant’s previous artistic works?
- How noteworthy is the applicant in his/her field of the arts?
- Quality and impact of the project
- How interesting are the project plan and its objectives?
- What is the quality of the project’s artistic content?
- How does the project encourage an understanding of or discussion about art?
- What is the impact of the project regionally, nationally, or internationally?
- What kinds of ideas and operating models does the project offer to the field of the arts, artists, and audiences?
- What kinds of cooperation partners does the project have?
- How realistic is the project in terms of implementation?
- Project financing
- How realistic is the project’s budget?
- How essential is the grant for implementing the project?
- Is the amount that has been applied in proportion to the contents and scope of the project?
- Does the project have other financings? Has other funding been confirmed for the project?
