Applications are now open for the Atlas Corps: Brazil Northern States Emerging Leaders Initiative to engage 10 emerging Brazilian social change leaders from the Northern Region of Brazil in the Virtual Leadership Institute.
The Atlas Corps Virtual Leadership Institute is an online learning community for global social change professionals based on our established leadership development curriculum. Participants, known as Atlas Corps Scholars, enhance their professional skills, build their global networks, and prepare for leadership in their home communities.
Goals
The goals of this initiative are:
- to strengthen ties between the United States and Brazil to increase mutual understanding and cooperation in the areas of inclusive economic growth, empowerment of women and minority groups, and the strengthening of democratic values, and
- to empower young civil society leaders and social entrepreneurs from Brazil.
Format
- The Leadership Institute is organized into five online learning modules: Orientation, Developing Self, Developing Others, Leading Movements, Reflection. This online program includes keynote speakers, interactive workshops, self-led activities, discussion groups, and community-building activities with leading U.S. organizations and leaders. The Brazilian Scholars will participate in these activities in collaboration with each other and peers from around the world.
- Scholars will design and implement Leadership Projects, which can be an activity, training session, and/or venture that promote economic inclusion and growth, empower women or minorities, and/or spread democratic values in Brazil. These projects could include workshops that provide entrepreneurial tools for women, a series of workshops on diversity and inclusion in the Brazilian context, and any other ideas that promote social impact in the community. A Community Impact Fund will be established to support the implementation of the most promising Leadership Projects.

Eligibility Criteria
- Be a citizen of Brazil;
- Be a resident of Brazil from and/or currently living in one of the following states: Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Pará, Rondônia, Roraima and Tocantins);
- Be aged 22 – 35 years old;
- Possess a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent;
- Be proficient in English (oral, writing, reading);
- Have two or more years of full-time professional experience working to generate positive impact, preferably in areas related to inclusive economic growth, empowerment of women and minority groups, or the strengthening of democratic values;
- Be committed to applying the knowledge gained to multiple the impact of their Atlas Corps experience, in Brazil;
- Be available to commit to approximately 3 hours of online activity and assignments per week for approximately 7 months;
- Have the technological capacity to participate in video calls which may be during working hours (1-2 per month); and
- Special consideration will be given to Brazilians who belong to a minority group or work on the inclusion of underrepresented groups.
