Applications are now open for the Auckland Council’s Waiheke Environmental Grant Programme.
Aims
The local board aims to support and grow:
- community and landowner conservation efforts
- environmental initiatives
Priorities

They will prioritise projects that:
- collaborate with other community organisations
- seek other sources of funding for a project from businesses or community
- purchase goods or services locally.

They also give priority to:
- material costs associated with environmental projects (e.g. plants, fencing material, and equipment)
- projects which enhance sites with high biodiversity values.

Outcomes

Islands, coastlines, forests, wetlands and marine areas are flourishing and protected. They are particularly interested in projects that:
- contribute to significant ecological sites
- aim to protect threatened species.
- Their community is engaged with their natural environment and is actively involved in the care, protection and restoration of biodiversity.

They are particularly interested in projects that:
- involve community volunteers
- are delivered by the community on private land.
Types of projects funded by the grant: Environment
Eligibility Criteria
- Grants are available to all community groups, environmental groups and landowners operating within the Waiheke Local Board area.
- Applications are accepted for work on private land or public land.
- Community organisations with a formal legal structure
- Groups or individuals with no formal legal structure can apply for up to $1,000 (Kaipatiki Local Board will not fund individuals)
- Applicants seeking funding over $1,000 will need to nominate an umbrella organisation or
- Receive funding retrospectively
