The Inner West has declared applications for the Community Wellbeing Grants Program to support projects which address local issues; promote social justice; enhance wellbeing; strengthen the sustainability and capacity of Inner West Community and foster inclusion and social connection.
These guidelines set out the purpose and objectives for each grant stream.
Objectives
The objectives of the Community Wellbeing Grants Program is to:
- Connect people to each other and place.
- Foster an inclusive and diverse community and encourage community participation.
- Develop community strengths, capabilities and lifelong learning.
- Encourage social and cultural sustainability.
- Promote community health and wellbeing.
- Encourage community collaborations and partnerships.
Funding Information
- Community Wellbeing grants of up to $5,000 each per year are available in 2020/21.

- Consistent processes govern grant applications and assessments.
- Transparency
- Eligibility criteria guide Council’s decision making process in the assessment and allocation of grant funding.
- Social justice
- Community resources are allocated and priced in order to promote social inclusion, equity, access and inclusion, participation, human rights and to address disadvantage.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for funding, you must:
- Be an Australian resident or permanent resident aged over 18 years.
- Be a legally registered, incorporated not-for-profit organization or group. Unincorporated groups must be auspiced by an incorporated not-for-profit organization. Note: This eligibility varies for Arts and Community History and Heritage grants in 2020.
- Be a resident of or delivering services in the Inner West Council area or offer a project that benefits residents of the Inner West.
- Include a booking confirmation form for use of a Council facility required as part of a grant application (i.e. Council venues, parks and sportsgrounds) unless otherwise negotiated with the relevant Council grant officer.
- Meet the grant stream eligibility criteria.
- Address the grant stream objectives.
- Demonstrate your project is in the public interest and in accordance with Council’s Community Strategic Plan, policies and regulations.
- Only submit one application per applicant each year.
Ineligibility Criteria
Inner West Council does not fund:
- Applicants who have not acquitted previously completed grant projects or provided an interim progress report for any outstanding grant projects funded by Inner West Council.
- Applicants who have outstanding debts of any kind to Inner West Council.
- Applicants who represent a state or federal government department.
- For-Profit Organizations and Sole Traders. Note: this eligibility varies for Arts Grants – Individual
Artists category Sole Traders can apply. - Applicants who represent a school or tertiary institution. Parents and Citizens’ Associations however are eligible to apply for projects that can demonstrate they benefit the Inner West community.
- Projects that have commenced or already taken place. Council does not provide retrospective funding.
- Projects that duplicate existing services already provided in the Inner West Council area.
- Capital works, such as renovations to buildings. Note: this eligibility varies for Environment Grants in 2020/2021.
- Financial assistance for interstate or overseas travel, or other costs where it could be perceived that the applicant would derive excessive personal benefits.
- Salaries of permanent employees who will be supervising or working on the project as part of their
usual duties. However, grants may fund additional staff to work specifically on the project. - Ongoing operational expenditure such as fixed overheads and administrative costs.
- General donations to charities. Council does accept applications for projects run by charities.
- Activities that could be perceived as benefitting political parties or associated groups.
- Activities that could be perceived as divisive within the community.
