The Australian Embassy in Mexico is pleased to announce the new call for Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Civil Associations, academic and research institutions committed to the development of Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama and the Dominican Republic.
The Direct Aid Program (DAP) is part of the Australian Government’s global social development assistance program. The DAP was created with the purpose of providing diplomatic missions of the Australian Government around the world with a flexible assistance mechanism in the form of financing for activities aimed at sustainable development.

Funding Information
The financing amounts per project will be up to a maximum of $ 20,000.00 AUD (twenty thousand Australian dollars).
Eligibility Criteria
- Projects must be submitted to the Australian Embassy in Mexico by Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Civil Associations, academic and research institutions committed to the development of Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama and the Dominican Republic, and that they are duly constituted as such in accordance with the laws of the corresponding country. It is important to mention that under the DAP guidelines it is not possible to grant financing to individuals.
- An important factor is that projects should promote self-reliance and economic development of the beneficiary communities.
- Proposals will be evaluated based on their particular merits and their adherence to the general objectives of the DAP. The DAP committee will favorably consider projects that adhere to the specified areas of interest. Normally the projects, which can be financed, must be carried out and completed within a period not exceeding eight (8) months, after the delivery of the approved funds. It is important to mention that the committee will consider longer projects, only in exceptional circumstances.
- On the other hand, as a general rule the following activities cannot be financed:
- Conferences in Australia;
- Grant programs run by other governments or organizations;
- Microcredit schemes or any other project that involves the return of funds;
- Study trips at home or abroad, or international trips within the framework of the project;
- Salary for permanent employees of the organization
- Purchase of vehicles. However, they could be considered medical and / or emergency vehicles, or agricultural vehicles if they are essential in the implementation of the project
- Recurring administrative expenses such as office rental, payment of services, salaries, water, electricity, telephone, gas, office supplies, Internet, maintenance, purchase of computers, televisions, vehicles, printers, digital machines, refrigerators, equipment insurance or other assets that are not essential for the development of the project in question or that are subject to theft, embezzlement and damage;
- Projects evaluated as contrary to the interests of Australia;
- Catering services and promotional activities in relation to DAP, and
- Sports tournaments or cultural shows that do not have a clear objective associated with development.
- Commercial operations
- Direct help cannot be given to governments
- Projects that are located in high-risk security regions such as Michoacán, Guerrero and Tamaulipas.
