The Southern Africa Network for Biosciences (SANBio) is currently inviting applications for its BioFISA II Programme which aimed to address Southern Africa’s challenges in health and nutrition.
The overall goal of the Programme is to strengthen regional collaborative biosciences research and innovation activities in Southern Africa.

Funding Information
- Up to Rand 4.5 million will be disbursed per Flagship project.
- The duration for Flagship projects shall not exceed 24 months.
Eligibility Criteria
- Lead applicant: In order to be eligible for a grant, the lead applicant must:
- be a public sector research institution/university working in the biosciences sector with a proven track record of research and development
- be established (with company or organisation registration documents) in any of the 12 SADC Member States (mentioned below)
- be a non-profit organization/private company working with a public sector research institution with a proven track record in research and development in the biosciences sector
- ensure that parties from at least three countries in the SANBio members states are involved in a consortium for Flagship grant applications
- ensure that the consortium has a team composition that consists of a senior scientist in the relevant subject, a project administrator/coordinator and a business expert as key team members
- Co-applicant(s):
- Co-applicants participate in designing and implementing the project and must be a research institution/university/NGO/private sector business in a different country (but established in the SANBio member states) to that of the lead applicant
- International co-applicants (applicants from outside the SANBio member states) can be included but they must be self-funded and an addition to the two collaborating SANBio member states;
- Costs incurred by the co-applicants are eligible in the same way as those incurred by the lead applicant
- Co-applicants must satisfy the eligibility criteria as applicable to the lead applicant
- Co-applicants must sign a consortium agreement with the lead applicant
- If awarded the grant contract, the co-applicant(s) will become beneficiary(ies) in the project together with the lead applicant.

Applicants must submit their Concept Notes to the SANBio/BioFISA II Programme Unit using the available templates via given website.

Angola, Mozambique, South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland, Malawi, Namibia, Mauritius, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Seychelles and Zambia.
