The Office of Citizen Exchanges, Youth Programs Division, of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) is seeking applications for the FY 2016 Emerging Young Leaders Award (EYL) to honor and support international youth that have done exceptional work to create positive and impactful social change in challenging environments.
EYL aims to recognize and support young people who have shown the tenacity and courage to create positive and impactful change in challenging environments while also increasing public participation in, and public information about, social change and tolerance.
Goals
- Support the U.S. foreign policy goal of youth empowerment and development by equipping exchange participants with the knowledge and skills to continue being active and responsible members of their communities and the global arena.
- Foster linkages between young people with progressive ideas for positive and impactful change in challenging environments.
- Promote pluralism, inclusive peace and reconciliation, and encourage tolerance and respect of others.
- Resources that will help them expand their networks and amplify their existing work and leadership skills through exposure to a variety of social networking tools that can facilitate civic action, outreach, and youth empowerment.
- A program that will result in an advanced understanding of community engagement as practiced in the United States.
Funding Information: The approximate total funding is $400,000.
