The Diabetes Australia is pleased to announce that a Kellion Research Award will be presented to one successful applicant of the Diabetes Australia Project Grant, whose project demonstrates a strong focus on Type 1 Diabetes, with emphasis on prevention and management of complications.
Diabetes Australia is dedicated to reducing the incidence and impact of diabetes on people, health systems and society. They work with people living with or at risk of diabetes, their families and carers, health professionals, researchers, funders, other diabetes organisations and the community to positively change people’s lives.
Purpose
- Encourage research innovation and project proposals that:
- Address the research priorities and unmet needs of people living with diabetes and the diabetes community – identified through needs assessment research.
- Foster meaningful consumer and community engagement throughout the research project lifecycle. This includes:
- Formal assessment criteria to assess the quality of consumer and community involvement in project proposal
- Representation of experts living with diabetes and the diabetes community, with a formal role in governance of the decision-making process, including assessing applications and deciding how funds received from Diabetes Australia donors are allocated
- Understand and describe proposed translational impact pathway/s for the proposed research and outcomes including formal assessment criteria
Priorities
- Diabetes Australia focuses on all diabetes types and is dedicated to reducing health inequities and addressing needs of priority populations at greater risk of diabetes including:
- Socioeconomically disadvantaged
- Regional, rural and remote
- Culturally and linguistically diverse
- First Nations People
- People with a disability and/or comorbidities
- Youth, Elderly and Pregnancy
Funding Information
- 15 project grants with an upper limit of $100,000 per grant are available with projects expected to be complete within 2 years
Eligibility Criteria
- Diabetes Australia Research Program grants are available to non-profit and public sector organisations concerned with the promotion of health care, education and/or medical research in the area of diabetes. These organisations must possess the requisite facilities to carry out the activities detailed in the application.
- The Diabetes Australia Project Grant is open to early- to mid-career researchers (up to 12 years post completion of their PhD) who are listed as the lead Responsible Investigator (RI) on the application. Non early to mid-career researchers can be list as co-investigators on the application.
- Previous applications submitted for the Diabetes Community Priorities Grants with an early to mid-career researcher listed as the lead investigator will be considered in this funding round and applicants do not need to re-apply. Applicants can only be listed as the lead investigator on one application for either the Diabetes Australia Project Grant or the Diabetes Community Priorities grant.
