The Ministry for Foreign Affairs is now accepting applications from civil society organisations for discretionary government grants for Europe information.

Funding Information
- A total of EUR 445,000 has been proposed for the grants in the 2023 Budget. The goal of the discretionary government grants for Europe information is to increase awareness of the European Union and promote topical debate about the EU.
What can the support are used for?
- The goal of the grants is to increase awareness and discussion related to the European Union in Finland. The granted grant is a state grant for the organization’s independent pursuit of increasing European awareness
- This is an information grant, so it can only be granted to projects that include citizen communication.
- The grant granted must be used in the year of grant. The unused portion cannot be carried over to the next year.
- A maximum of 30 percent of the granted support amount is accepted for salary and incidental expenses , and a maximum of 10 percent of the granted support amount may be used for administrative expenses.
What can’t the support be used for?
- The grant is intended for information in Finland and is for one year. The grant can only be used for necessary and reasonable expenses for the implementation of the project, as stated in the application or required by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs when awarding the grant.
- The organization must observe
- Appropriate frugality in its operations and financial management.
- Support cannot be granted for the following costs:
- Administrative costs considered normal for the organization (e.g. rent costs),
- Representation and hospitality expenses (incl. separate meals, remembering lecturers),
- Equipment purchases (e.g. computers, photography equipment),
- Publications presenting the organization itself or its activities (e.g. organization magazines, websites),
- Trips abroad, unless the trip is essentially related to the project (separate
- Justifications must be provided),
- Staff planning meetings and catering costs
- As well as information activities that have already been carried out.
Eligibility Criteria
- A Finnish non-governmental organization applying for a grant must be a non-profit organization (registered association or foundation) registered in Finland and capable of legal action. At least one year must have passed since registration at the time of applying for information support. Support is not granted to individuals or groups.
