The United Nations Development Program has launched the calls for proposals from non-governmental organizations to strengthen the resilience of local communities and preserving peace gains in central Mali.
The project is a pilot initiative to operationalize the sustainable solutions and stabilization strategy of central Mali in the regions of Mopti, Bandiagara and Douentza. It is also justified by the evolution of the security situation on the ground, in particular with:
- the intensification of military operations;
- the importance of the needs of target populations, particularly women and young people, with a view to guaranteeing them a life of dignity and compliance with international human rights standards as well as theIr integration into peace dynamics,
- weak capacities resilience and recovery of local communities, displaced or returned people, especially for women, young girls and their dependence on humanitarian aid,
- and the frequent recruitment of young people within armed groups and therefore the need to offer young people, particularly those associated with armed groups, perspectives other than handling weapons, by guaranteeing them opportunities for training, protection and socio-economic reintegration.
The project aims to improve the living conditions of the populations as a dividend of the ongoing peace process, reduce the risk of violence and strengthen trust between the State and the populations.
The project will enable the United Nations system in Mali to launch a more coherent and integrated pilot approach to the implementation of the Humanitarian – Development – Peace Nexus through a concerted and coordinated commitment of all actors and a multi-sectoral approach focused on strengthening the resilience of displaced or returnees and their host communities.
Objectives
- Specific objective(s):
- The resilience capacities of women and youth are strengthened through increased access to basic services and livelihoods to preserve peace;
- Trust between local populations – women and young people – and peacebuilding actors including the State and local partners is improved and traditional social ties between communities are strengthened to promote social cohesion and reconciliation at the local level;
- The political orientation, steering and coordination bodies for peacebuilding actions in the central regions are operational and provide data for coordinated programming;
- Gender promotion initiations in intervention areas are strengthened.
Funding Information
- The budget must be sufficient and reasonable for the proposed activities and must not exceed $250,000 per circle.
- Duration: the project has a duration of 6 months, renewable;
- The budget proposal must be clearly structured to highlight the main budget lines and devote at least 85% of funds to project results.
Expected Results
- Result 1: The resilience capacities of women and youth are strengthened through increased access to basic services and livelihoods
to preserve peace. - Result 2: Trust between local populations – women and young people – and peacebuilding actors including the State and local partners is improved and traditional social ties between communities are strengthened to promote social cohesion and reconciliation at the local level.
- Result 3: The political orientation, steering and coordination bodies for peacebuilding actions in the central regions are operational and provide data for coordinated programming.
- Result 4. Gender promotion initiatives in intervention areas are strengthened.
Eligibility Criteria
- The parameters that will determine whether a non-governmental organization (NGO) is eligible by UNDP will be based on the NGO’s information request model.
- NGOs that have already submitted the information required in the request for information should not resubmit them. They are already registered in the roster that UNDP regularly updates.
