Aidsfonds has announced a call for proposals for the 2022-2023 grants for advocacy on HIV and sexual and reproductive health and rights for key populations in South Africa and Mozambique.
This call for proposals from Aidsfonds is part of the Love Alliance: a strategic partnership between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, Aidsfonds, UHAI EASHRI, AFE, ISDAO, GALZ, Sisonke, SANPUD and GNP+ which runs from 2021 to 2025.
The Love Alliance aims to improve the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of sex workers, people who use drugs, LGBTIQ+ people including people living with HIV in Africa through advocacy at national, global, and regional levels. The Love Alliance works towards a significant reduction in HIV incidence by influencing policies, organising communities and raising awareness on health rights in ten countries. Love Alliance brings together organisations led by the communities which are most affected by HIV and AIDS across Africa.
Goals
Proposals under this call work towards one or more of the goals of the Love Alliance:
- Capable, inclusive, influential, and mutually supportive key population movements in an unrestricted civic space.
- An end to sexual, gender-based violence, stigma and discrimination against key populations.
- Equal access to inclusive, people-centred, accountable, integrated HIV and comprehensive sexual rights and health services.
Funding Information
The project duration must not exceed 21 months. Specifically, activities under the project must take place between 1st April 2022 till 31st December 2023. Each application can consist of a minimum of EUR 10,000 to a maximum amount of EUR 100,000 per year. Aidsfonds is looking to fund 3 to 4 organisations in South Africa and 1 to 2 organisation in Zimbabwe. The total available amount under this call is €530,000 for South Africa and €195,000 for Zimbabwe. Out of this entire amount for both countries, €200,000 is specifically reserved for organisations led by and working with communities of people who use drugs.

Who is this call for?
This call is for organisations and networks led by LGBTIQ+ people, sex workers, people who use drugs, including people living with HIV and/or young key populations in South Africa and Zimbabwe. They specifically encourage organisations working with people who use drugs to apply as well as organisations inclusive of transgender groups, working from a feminist perspective.
Aidsfonds is looking for Community-led organisations and consortia in South Africa and Zimbabwe, who are:
- Advocating for an end to sexual violence, gender-based violence, stigma and discrimination against sex workers, LGBTIQ+ people, people who use drugs, including young key populations and people living with HIV.
- Advocating for equal access to inclusive, people-centred, accountable, integrated HIV and sexual and reproductive health services.
- Interested in creating or participating in a movement of capable, inclusive, influential, and mutually supportive key population-led organisations in an unrestricted civic space.
Eligibility Criteria
In order to be eligible to apply under this grant, your organisation has to meet the following criteria:
- Your organisation is led by members of the following communities: sex workers, LGBTIQ+ people, people who use drugs, including young key populations and people living with HIV.
- Organisations which are not community-led are (only) considered when:
- they are hosting community-led organisations
- are part of a consortium with community-led organisations
- they are a network of community-led organisations
- they channel the voice and ensure the meaningful engagement of people who use drugs, LGBTIQ+ people, sex workers, people living with HIV, and/or young key populations in situations where there are no community-led organisations present.
- Your organisation is a not-for-profit organisation engaged in HIV and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights advocacy in South Africa or Zimbabwe for at least two years already.
- Your organisations can operate at local, provincial or national level. For organisations advocating at the Southern African regional level, please refer to a separate call for proposals, also published alongside this call.
- Your organisation is registered with the relevant government department. If your organisation is not registered, you can find a fiscal hosting organisation to support you with the grant. For example, the national network of people living with HIV, harm reduction organisations, or other network organisations.
- You may also apply as a group of community-led organisations together in a consortium. This can include harm reduction organisations, service providers , universities and other community based organisations. In this case you apply with one registered lead organisation and at least one community-led organisation in the consortium.
