The National Institute of Corrections (NIC) is accepting proposals for the Advancing Women in Leadership Program to supply the leadership theories, and the leadership assessment tools, followed by numerous learning tasks and activities, structured to use enhance supervisory and leadership abilities.
It is imperative to support positive interventions for women working in and striving for elevation in the often unwelcoming world of corrections. When gender barriers are eliminated, accelerated learning for women is possible. Women-only environments offer safe, nurturing conditions in which women can concentrate on the learning process that is designed to encourage their learning orientations (i.e., relationships, connections, and inclusion), behavior characteristics commonly found in women’s way of leading. It is an opportunity to re-establish their professional value, attend to personal balance, and increase support via creating networks and exploring next steps.
This solicitation is for a proposal to enter into a 12-month cooperative agreement to coordinate and deliver two training programs targeted for two different levels of women in leadership. For both programs, NIC will be providing the current training program agenda, modules, experiential resources, and the presentation slide deck to the agreement holder.
Goals
- The goals of this cooperative agreement are to:
- Deliver quality, research-based programming that supports women’s ways of leading.
- Increase participant self-awareness.
- Explores the influence of psychological safety.
- Provide personal and professional development.
- Create an environment that promotes networking relationships
Objectives
- The awardee must facilitate the coordination and delivery of two training programs using National Institute of Corrections (NIC) lesson plans. These training programs use presentations, tabletop exercises, experiential activities, literature, audio-visual resources, and experienced faculty to support the following:
- Providing participants with insight into awareness of themselves and their leadership styles.
- Providing a safe and confidential training environment for discussion and learning.
- Creating a professional development plan for sustainability and elevation.
- Developing the professional network for continuing support.
Funding Information
- NIC expects to make one award for as much as $100,000.00 for a 12-month project period, beginning on March 29, 2024. Requests for amounts more than a total of $100,000.00, including direct and indirect costs will not be considered.
Deliverables
- The successful applicant must complete the following deliverables during the project period. The program narrative should reflect how the applicant will accomplish these activities. The tasks and deliverables to be completed by the awardee under this cooperative agreement include the following:
- Deliver one, 32-hour, in-person, Emerging Women in Leadership program.
- Deliver one, 36-hour, in-person, Strategic Development of Executive Women program.
- Schedule a kickoff meeting with the NIC program manager within 30 days of award to review deliverables.
- In the first award quarter, conduct a two-day planning meeting with the NIC program manager and awardee for a review of critical information pertaining to the delivery of the two programs.
- Based on the two-day planning meeting, submit a proposed schedule to manage a communication schedule/strategy to ensure the timely sharing of pre-program assignments and program information with participants.
- Provide NIC-approved subject matter experts (SMEs) to deliver classroom training and serve as daily support coaches. SMEs must have a minimum of five years of experience with women’s leadership training.
- House NIC’s experiential/activity materials until the end of the award.
- Provide a daily participant ”warm-up” activity.
Eligibility Criteria
- NIC invites applications from nonprofit organizations (including faith-based, community, and tribal organizations), for-profit organizations (including tribal for-profit organizations), and institutions of higher education (including tribal institutions of higher education). Recipients, including for-profit organizations, must agree to waive any profit or fee for services. Foreign governments, international organizations, and non-governmental international organizations/institutions are not eligible to apply. Proof of 501(c) (3) status as determined by the Internal Revenue Service or an authorizing tribal resolution is required.
- NIC welcomes applications that involve two or more entities; however, one eligible entity must be the applicant and the others must be proposed as subrecipients. The applicant must be the entity with primary responsibility for administering the funding and managing the entire program. Only one (1) application will be accepted from a submitting organization.
- NIC may elect to make awards for applications submitted under this solicitation in future fiscal years, dependent on the merit of the applications and on the availability of appropriation.
