The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is seeking proposals from NGOs/CSOs working in the field of women’s empowerment for capacity building of 20 women in domestic photovoltaic solar energy.
The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) country office in Madagascar aims to contribute through its initiatives to the overall objective of providing access to clean, sustainable and affordable energy to 500 million people, half of whom are women. To this end, the country office is leading a number of projects and initiatives aimed at improving access to modern energy services that can make them more self-reliant.
The “Powering Equality” initiative implemented by the national Africa Mini grid Program (AMP) project is an opportunity to improve Malagasy women’s access to clean and affordable energy and to make them autonomous towards structural transformation. This initiative attempts to target vulnerable women furthest from mini-grids by offering them decentralized access solutions to decentralized renewable energy access solutions that complement the inadequacies of mini-grids. This activity will attempt to fill the gap in access to electrical energy for targeted groups of women and create business opportunities for them.
Objectives and Expected Results/Deliverables
- The objective of this call for proposals is to invite national and international Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) as well as Malagasy Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to submit their proposals in the field of women’s empowerment through the promotion of domestic photovoltaic solar energy service. The pre-selected NGOs/CSOs will be interviewed for a final selection.
- The proposal prioritizes the following interconnected outcomes:
- Economic empowerment of women by strengthening the capacities of beneficiaries in the assembly, installation and maintenance of domestic photovoltaic solar systems;
- Strengthening skills in photovoltaic solar energy aimed at market for developed services.
- Overall objective to be achieved by the Energy for Equality initiative:
- R.1: Development of energy solutions for 2 groups of women (10 women per group) through training in the areas of installation and maintenance of domestic photovoltaic solar systems in order to develop skills in these women. technicians in photovoltaic solar energy which will allow them to enter entrepreneurship linked to this energy sector;
- R.2: Adoption of entrepreneurship tools by targeted groups of women and access to the energy products market:
- training in entrepreneurship and market opportunities;
- support the formation of cooperatives to guarantee investments and income;
- business management training.
Funding Information
- Proposal amounts should not exceed USD 25,000 for direct interventions including all charges relating to training and equipment activities at the two sites.
Zones d’Intervention
- One (01) group of women (at least 10 women per group) will be selected in each region.
- Analamanga Region (Communes: Mahitsy & Antananarivo)
- Atsimo Andrefana Region Urban Commune of Betioky (District of Betioky Sud)
Final Beneficiaries
- The target women or groups of women and their respective communities constitute the final beneficiaries of this initiative.
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible proposals will be those focused on the principle of empowering women and particularly targeting women as direct and final beneficiaries, collaborating with the different local, regional and national institutions and social structures.
- The parameters that will determine whether an NGO/CSO is eligible to be considered by UNDP will be based on the NGO/CSO Request for Information (RFI).
