The United Nation Development Program (UNDP) Timor-Leste through its Arafura and Timor Seas Ecosystems Action Programme phase 2 (ATSEA-2) is seeking for proposals from duly qualified registered Local Non-Governmental Organizations, Civil Society Organizations and Community Based Organizations (NGOs/CSOs/CBOs) to implement activities aimed at offering trainings to local communities and support them to establish drought resilient home gardens in Manufahi Municipality.
Objectives
The main objective of this call is to attract competent NGOs/CSOs/CBOs in Timor-Leste to train farmers on farm-to-market value chain and establishment of climate/drought resilient home gardens as part of their livelihood’s diversification and adaptive response to climate change for enhanced food and nutrition security as well as improved income and livelihoods, while protecting coastal resources.
- Specifically, the activity will:
- Train coastal communities’ on climate resilient crops and establishment of climate resilient home gardens that, for example, require very little space and can be easily attended to and operate on domestic wastewater during dry periods.
- Provide training to coastal communities on garden and agriculture techniques, such as terracing, so that in the future home gardens can adapt to climate change and support continued food security. The training could further demonstrate new ways to store seeds and different planting techniques to help families learn to grow more nutritious foods and sell surplus produce.
- Train farmers on farm-to-market and promotes value chain to improve the economic and social conditions of participating farmer households by obtaining fair price for the sales of their agricultural produce, and
- Provide support to the coastal communities with agricultural inputs, towards the establishment of drought resilient home gardens for food and nutrition security.
Funding Information
- The maximum amount of the award grant is $40,000 for a period of not more than one year.
- Project area: Dotic, Manufahi Municipality
- Proposals for the project interventions should be no more than twelve months from September 2022 to August 2023.
Expected Outcomes
- Improved resilience of coastal communities from impacts of climate change
- Improved food security and livelihoods
- Integrated coastal management of coastal resources through alternative livelihoods (agriculture through establishment of drought resilient home gardens)
- Enhanced knowledge on establishment of climate resilient home gardens
- Improved knowledge of farmers on accessing fair prices for their products per the market value.
Eligibility Criteria
- Organization
- A minimum of 2-3 years working experience in operating locally in the field of Agriculture development, or a closely related development field.
- Experience in climate resilient home garden development and training will be an asset.
- Project Team
- Should have at least two (2) qualified Agriculture Officers, with a minimum of 2-3 years of working experience in Timor-Leste.
- Excellent knowledge of the Timorese laws and legal system and experience working with local farmers, other community-based organizations on agriculture projects in Timor-Leste.
- Strong case management, monitoring, and reporting experience
- Should have some knowledge of UNDP partnership system and requirements
- Head of NGO/CSO/CBO
- Demonstrated experience in designing, implementing, managing, and monitoring programs and projects; and
- Demonstrated experience of effectively and efficiently managing finance with accountability and transparency
- Knowledge of agriculture value chains approach in Timor-Leste
- Language: Fluency in Tetum and English (both oral and written)
