Call for Proposals for Provision of Mobile Right-based Services – Kosovo

UN Women is seeking proposals from Civil Society Organizations (CSO) that specialize in urban development and gender-based violence to carry out capacity building, advocacy, and awareness-raising actions for city citizens for its Safe City and Safe Public Spaces for Women and Girls Program.

The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) works to eliminate from discrimination against women and girls, to empowering women and achieving goals following equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, rights of man, humanitarian action, peace and security.

The “Dakar Safe City and Safe Public Spaces with Women and Girls Program” project (safe cities, public spaces safe without violence for women and girls), is part of the implementation of the Strategic Plan UN Women Global 2018-2021 on “Ending Violence Against Women and Girls”.

The program is organized around the following four components:

  • Gender-sensitive interventions relevant and adapted to the local context: under the leadership of municipalities and cities, actions adapted to the local context will be identified and implemented (capacity building on conceptual approaches, safe and secure cities and public places for women and girls). This will be an important part of the program.
  • Comprehensive laws and policies to prevent and respond to sexual violence in public spaces: authorities, civil society actors and women’s community partners will work in synergy to defend, develop and monitor the effective implementation of laws and policies. It will also be a matter of ensuring that the support resources are in place to support this action.
  • Investments in the safety and economic viability of public spaces: An approach of gender in urban planning will be used to ensure that the needs of both women and men be taken into account in the planning of all municipal services.
  • Changing attitudes and behaviors to promote the rights of women and girls for enable them to take full advantage of public spaces without violence.

The expected effects in the partner cities are as follows:

  • The different forms of sexual violence against women and girls are reduced in the spaces public,
  • Women benefit from a greater sense of security, and greater comfort in the spaces public,
  • The use of public spaces is increased and women enjoy better mobility and quality of life.
