The Wallacea Partnership Small Grants Program is accepting applications from civil society organizations (CSOs) to conserve biodiversity in ecosystems with high biodiversity but which are highly vulnerable to damage and extinction.
This program also supports poverty alleviation and economic development of people whose lives depend on these important ecosystems. The Wallacea Partnership Program is supported by the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) which is a joint initiative of l’Agence Française de Développement, Conservation International, the European Union, the Global Environment Facility, the Government of Japan and the World Bank, and has entered its second period (Wallacea II Partnership Program).
Priority Funding Areas
The proposed project is in line with the theme of the request for proposal and refers to the six strategic directions, and is located in the priority funding area as follows:
- Address threats to high priority species
- Improving management of Important Areas for Biodiversity with or without official protection status
- Support sustainable natural resource management by communities in priority locations and corridors
- Strengthen community-based action to protect marine species and areas
- Engage the private sector as an active participant in the conservation of priority areas and corridors, in productive landscapes, and throughout Wallacea
- Build civil society capacity for effective conservation action in Wallacea
Topics
- Bird Indonesia as the Regional Implementation Program/ RIT opened the 4th proposal request in the Wallacea II Partnership Program and invited competent civil society organizations to submit grant proposals covering one or a combination of the following topics:
- Institutionalize outcomes and develop a synthesis of lessons learned from Small Scale Fisheries Management projects facilitated by the Partnership Program (CEPF) Wallacea. The project theme may consist of one or a combination of the following sub-themes:
- Increasing the scope (scale-up) of the impact of projects and models that have been successful at the site, regional and national levels
- Visual documentation of project achievements and learning
- Writing journals or scientific writings about program achievements
- Building and bridging partnerships between the private sector (Fish Processing Units/UPI, Suppliers, Associations, etc.) with CEPF and Bird Indonesia partner civil society organizations in managing small-scale fisheries and conservation areas.
- Development of site-level policies and funding in support of sustainable small-scale fisheries governance (eg RPJMDes, RKPDes, Village Fund Budget/ADD, Village Fund/DD, and other sources).
- Strengthen community-based conservation action on endemic and priority species, which includes reducing threats (poaching, trade, consumption, etc.) and managing them at the community level for conservation purposes.
Funding Information
- Grant Amount: USD 50,000 (rate Rp. 15,009.68)
- Projects that can be funded have a minimum term of 12 months and a maximum 18 months.
Eligible Projects
- The proposed project must support sustainable small-scale fisheries practices with an ecosystem approach, which considers aspects of protection of endemic and priority species, aspects of community-based management of marine protected areas, as well as aspects of community based coastal and marine resource management.
- The proposed project has compatibility between the value of the project and the achievements and impact that will be produced (cost effective).
- The proposed project can be a continuation or expansion of previous work or a new project. The aspect of sustainability after the end of funding from the Wallacea II Partnership Program is the key to evaluating proposals.
- The proposed project considers gender aspects and contributes to the realization of gender equality, including aspects of equal and harmonious involvement, access and decision making for women and men.
- The applicant has a bank account in the name of the institution, specifically to accommodate grants from the Wallacea II Partnership Program.

- Togean Banggai, Solor-Alor, North Sulawesi, Sulawesi Southeast, Pangkajene Islands, Buru Seascape, and South Sulawesi.
Eligibility Criteria
- The proposer is an Indonesian civil society organization working in one of the Priority Marine Corridors in the Wallacea region, has experience in coastal and marine conservation projects and sustainable small-scale fisheries management.
- The proposing institution has legality and an accountable financial management system.
