As part of its women in leadership and governance program and with the overall objective of advancing women‘s participation in politics in Ethiopia, UN Women plans to work with civil society organizations to avail tailored capacity building program for women aspirants and organize successive advocacy platforms to promote women’s right to participate in politics and public life.
Under the leadership of the Women in Leadership and Governance Programme, UN Women aims to support partnership with a CSO that has a track record of working in the area of gender equality, women political empowerment, particularly on advocacy on women political empowerment and capacity building for women leaders and aspirants.
It also aims to contribute towards gender responsiveness of key democratic and governance institutions including parliament and regional councils, local governments, political parties and electoral management bodies in Ethiopia.
Objective
- The project has an overall objective to advance women’s leadership and participation in decision-making in Ethiopia through capacity building, advocacy and multi-stakeholder dialogue by focusing on key stakeholders and actors in the fields of politics and decision making.
Funding Information
The budget range for this proposal should be equivalent to 150,000– 180,000 USD.
Outcome: Women’s (young women and women with disabilities), voice agency and leadership is increased at all levels through improved knowledge and capabilities.
Output: Women leaders and aspirants (including young women and women with disabilities) are empowered and have developed capacities to express their voice, agency and can compete for both elective and appointive leadership positions at national and local level
Competencies
Technical/functional competencies required
- Track record of experience in the field of human rights, gender equality, women’s empowerment.
- Specialized knowledge and expertise in the field of training for women aspirants (women political party members).
- Experience in engaging with multiple stakeholders, including but not limited to governmental and non-governmental organizations, political actors and advocacy networks.
- Experience and proven track record/credibility and capacity on gender and development, RBM and its application to key processes (e.g., planning, programming, monitoring, reporting and evaluation), and other areas of expertise relevant to the services required.
- Capacity to deliver expected results: governance and management competency, and financial and administrative competency.
- Relevant experience in partnerships with UN Women, other UN agencies, governments, NGOs, and other development actors.
In the selection of partners, the following competencies will be considered:
- Experience in facilitating exchange of ideas, good practices and dissemination of knowledge and information throughout Ethiopia in the field of women’s political participation is an asset.
- Familiarity with UN agencies will be an asset.
Eligibility Criteria
- UN Women invite qualified parties to submit Technical and Financial Proposals to provide services associated with the UN Women requirements for a Responsible Party.
- UN Women is soliciting proposals from Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).
- Women’s organizations or entities are highly encouraged to apply.
