To strengthen the resilience of rural women farmers to the effects of climate change, UN Women has developed and implemented the “Women’s Access to Means of Production for Sustainable Agriculture” Program.
It is one of the priority programs of UN Women Mali and contributes to the implementation of the 2020-2024 strategic note on result 3. Its overall objective is that rural women have better access to means of production and productive resources. in order to strengthen their resilience to the effects of climate change.
Mali’s AgriFeD program in its first phase which lasted 5 years (2017-2021) and reached more than 26,000 beneficiaries from around a hundred women’s groups operating in the agricultural sector in the first 6 regions of the country (according to the old administrative division).
Objective of the AgriFeD II program
- Ensure by 2026 the sustainable and equitable management of natural resources and the environment by targeted communities and strengthen their resilience to the harmful effects of climate change.
- Goal: Strengthen the economic empowerment of 50,000 beneficiaries in the regions of Kayes, Koulikoro, Ségou, Sikasso Mopti, Timbuktu Gao and the district of Bamako and increase their resilience to climate change. At least 20% of the targets will be young people and the program will take into account vulnerable targets such as the disabled.
Funding Information
- The budget per project must not exceed 250,000 USD.
Duration
- The project will last a maximum of 10 months with no possibility of extension in the event of additional resources being mobilized.
Results/Products targeted by the AgriFeD II Program
- Organizations interested in this recruitment must make proposals on the basis of the project and financial offer outlines, aligning themselves with these objectives and results by defining activities that enable the latter to be achieved.
- Result 1: Local and national actors are better able to improve policies and plans relating to agriculture and renewable energy allowing women to benefit from better access to production resources, services and technologies for ecological agriculture
- Output 1.1: Target local authorities have improved their capacity to integrate gender in the implementation and monitoring of policies, laws and plans concerning agriculture, renewable energies and climate change.
- Output 1.2: Program beneficiaries, particularly women, have increased access to secure and equipped production spaces
- Result 2: Women farmers have strengthened their capacities in sustainable agricultural practices, in particular by using modern means of production which reduce the arduousness of agricultural work in the context of climate change
- Output2.1: Program beneficiaries, particularly women, have increased access to technological innovations, including sustainable agricultural production equipment
- Output 2.2: Program beneficiaries, particularly women, have increased access to markets with improved use of NICTs, processing, storage, conservation and marketing infrastructure.
- Output 2.3: The beneficiaries of the program, particularly women, have strengthened their access and use of agricultural financing mechanisms providing access to fintech
- Product2.4: The beneficiaries of the program, particularly women, have strengthened their networking in a value chain approach
- Result. 3: Program beneficiaries, particularly women-led groups, improved their agricultural productivity with increased use and promotion of renewable energy sources
- Output 3.1: Program beneficiaries, particularly women-led groups, have better access to renewable energy
- Output 3.2: Program beneficiaries, particularly women-led groups, particularly young women, generated more income through increased access and use of renewable energy for productive and domestic activities
- Result 1: Local and national actors are better able to improve policies and plans relating to agriculture and renewable energy allowing women to benefit from better access to production resources, services and technologies for ecological agriculture
Geotargeting
- The activities will take place in the regions of Ségou, Sikasso and Mopti. Some former program sites will be supported to reinforce the achievements. Applicant NGOs must specify their regions of intervention in their proposals.
Eligibility Criteria
- UN Women invites qualified parties to submit technical and financial proposals to provide services associated with UN Women requirements for a responsible party.
- UN Women solicits proposals from Civil Security Organizations (CSOs). Women’s organizations or entities are strongly encouraged to apply.
