Deadline: 14-Jul-23
The Rosa Rebellion invites project proposals rooted in creative activism from women of color living in the United States.
The Rebel Fund is a newly formed 501(c)(3) that equips women of color, who are engaged in creative activism, with financial capital and a decolonizing community space. In doing so, they strive to nourish imagination and activate liberated futures where people of color thrive on the own terms and according to the own values.
Women of color contribute intellectual, creative, technological, and social brilliance to the world often without compensation and with less financial capital. What they have achieved without resources is remarkable, but unjust. The cycle of extraction without investment must be intentionally disrupted.
Creative activism is the dismantling of oppressive systems and the disruption of normative spaces; at its core, creative activism encompasses the multi-faceted, intersectional and innovative practices of equity. Projects should be rooted in and inspire imagination, envision a social activation (i.e., activity, initiative, event) that invites the public to disrupt systems of racial injustice, and be completed within 6 months of award.
Dream expansively. The view of creative activism is intentionally broad and inclusive to encourage radical imagination and vision for not only redefining what is, but what is to come. They are holding space for your vision. They welcome activations that are informed by both western and non-western theories of change and articulate a new way of existing through the lens of BIPOC experiences. In other words, tell them what activation you believe will be the most impactful, even if it does not fit a typical mold of activism. They are excited by activations that transform the way people think and behave in relation to racial justice, equity and community healing in America.
Funding Information
- In this cycle, they will fund three (3) unique projects at $10,000 each. All funds will be unrestricted. The seed funders come from Rosa Rebellion’s THE /whiteboard/ program that calls white women into the labor of racial justice, as co-agitators and co-laborers in their spheres of influence. The invitation to learn, unlearn, listen, and build intention around the collective work of equity recognizes that racial justice cannot exist without economic justice. The Rebel Fund aims to disrupt the often white-centric lens of philanthropy and capital investment by unapologetically resourcing your work without co-opting or directing it.
Submission Components
- They know that applications can be time consuming and daunting; they seek to build a more equitable system by using an iterative approach that honors applicants time and effort. First-round applicants are asked to complete a short online application (less than 2,000 words total) that describes their project idea, activation description and vision for the collective BIPOC futures. From this pool, select applicants will be invited to submit additional information and/or join them for a paneled interview
Selection Criteria

- Activation Impact – shows promise for effecting change in both thought and behavior around issues of racial justice and equity
- Feasibility – project appears to be deliverable within 6 months.
- Additional selection criteria may include clarity of vision, depth of insight, potential scope of impact, need for seed/catalyst funding.
