Applicants are invited to submit proposals for Pakistan Evidence and Learning Platform (PELP) Innovation Grant Mechanism which is designed to boost innovation in support of the humanitarian to development nexus in Pakistan. It aims at identifying and supporting the development, testing and potential scaling up of innovations for humanitarian action.
The Grant Mechanism promotes sustainability as a key focus for innovation for humanitarian action. It also encourages collaboration between actors, including the private sector, to co-invest in ideas that can influence humanitarian action for greater impact. In practice this means identifying solid people-centred innovative solutions, testing them and learning from their results to advance humanitarian action in Pakistan.
The Pakistan Evidence and Learning Platform (PELP) is an important component of the Multi-Year Humanitarian Programme (MYHP), designed to strengthen knowledge management processes in the humanitarian sector and, thereby, ensure a continuously improving humanitarian response.
Number of Grants and Sizes
There will be a total of eight grants:
- Two grants to be awarded for each thematic area, however, PELP reserves the right to include a third one – based on the strength of the proposal;
- Organizations can only submit one proposal;
- Grants applications should be between £20,000 and £40,000. The final amount awarded will be decided by an internal review committee;
- Funding will be provided up-front, with the exception of a final instalment of £5,000 paid upon acceptance of final deliverables after 12 months.
Project Duration
Total project duration is one-year.
Thematic Areas
- Sustainable energy – for example, biogas, wind, solar, hydro.
- Sustainable water use – for example, storage, treatment of brackish water, minimum water use.
- Emergency shelter
- Protection – innovative solutions for reaching out to the most vulnerable, women and girls, disabled persons.
The proposal should focus on one thematic area only, demonstrate inclusiveness, and ensure the principle of “do no harm”.
Eligibility Criteria
- The Innovation Grant Mechanism is aimed at organizations (NGOs, INGOs, UN), Government, academia and private sector working on humanitarian issues that are based in Pakistan.
- Organizations leading Multi-Year Humanitarian Programme funded activities are not eligible as innovation is taking place as part of the programme already and will link into the PELP Knowledge Hub by default.
- Innovative solutions are promoted in the Multi-Year Humanitarian Programme and can also build on synergies with the PELP Innovation Grant Mechanism.
