The First Peoples’ Cultural Council (FPCC) is pleased to launch the Community Arts Spaces program to support Indigenous arts organizations and arts collectives to develop Indigenous workspaces and workshops in order to share artistic skills and knowledge.
The Community Arts Spaces program supports activities including workshops, training, knowledge sharing, workshop materials and minor building renovations and improvements.
This grant is intended to support Indigenous community arts and culture workspaces that support the transmission of arts skills and knowledge through all artforms. This grant is here to help create spaces for Indigenous artists to make and practice their art. All spaces must be community focused and available for community use.
Examples include:
- Rehearsal space (for artforms such as singing, drumming, dance, theatre, and others)
- Permanent designated spaces to weave, carve, draw, or paint or practice other artforms.
Funding Information
- Grants for Community Arts Spaces are available up to $35,000.
Eligibility Criteria
- The applicant must:

- have an artistic mandate that demonstrates a commitment to their practice
- demonstrate the support, participation, and direction of recognized Indigenous artists, cultural or community leaders
- present a realistic and balanced project budget that identifies other sources of revenue required to complete the project (if applicable)
- indicate an achievable project timeline that works for the artist/mentor(s) involved
- not have the same project funded through the BCAC support programs
- organizations MUST be First Nations or Indigenous directed (at least 51% of directors).
- The project must:
- demonstrate commitment to the development and practice of traditional arts and artists (this must be evident in their written mandate and previous activities)
- have a clear objective focused on sharing knowledge and skills related to a traditional art form in any discipline (visual arts, song and music, dance, and story)
- demonstrate the input and direction of the senior artist/mentor(s) involved in the project
- have a start date after the application deadline.
