The Bureau of Justice Assistance seeks to prevent and reduce violent crime through comprehensive, evidence-informed violence intervention programs focused on those at highest risk.

Goals

• Goal 1: The main goal of CVIPI is the prevention and reduction of violent crime in communities by supporting comprehensive, evidence-informed community violence intervention and prevention programs:
  • Reduce community-based violence by implementing and monitoring intervention programs focused on individuals identified as being at the highest risk of violence.
  • Increase collaboration between multidisciplinary stakeholders and the capacity of these partners to access use data to assess the drivers of violence in the community and identify evidence-informed CVI strategies appropriate to address violence.
  • Build capacity of community CVI organizations to implement CVI strategies, collaborate with community partners and stakeholders, and identify funding sources to sustain programs over time and leverage other funding to support these strategies.
  • Increase the base and transfer of knowledge related to evidence-informed practices and best methods in community violence intervention and prevention programs, including use of data to inform approaches and assess outcomes.
  • Elevate voice of and job opportunities for community violence survivors and improve career pathways for the CVI frontline workforce.
  • Define and provide policy guidance and training on the core practices related to the professional understanding between CVI and law enforcement.
