Denmark: Green Innovation Grants for Sustainable Living Projects

Deadline: 3-Sep-25

Novo Nordisk Foundation’s grant program supports innovative projects that promote sustainable behavior and practices across Denmark. The initiative seeks to encourage individuals, communities, and organizations to embrace solutions that drive real progress in the green transition. The aim is not only to implement change but also to inspire societal learning, optimism, and public support for long-term sustainability.

Up to DKK 35 million is available for projects, with grants ranging from DKK 200,000 to DKK 6 million. Projects may last up to three years. Funding can be used for staffing, including project management and research support; operating expenses such as materials and equipment; travel and participation in conferences; communication and outreach activities; and administrative costs directly linked to the project.

The focus is on ideas that can be tested, replicated, and scaled—initiatives that explore new ways of living more sustainably through experimentation, knowledge sharing, and community engagement. Projects that foster new social norms, support institutional capacity building, and motivate people to embrace environmentally friendly lifestyles are encouraged.

Eligible initiatives might include living labs, citizen science efforts, local development projects involving municipalities and communities, or partnerships connecting changemakers from civil society, government, academia, and the private sector. The goal is to demonstrate that sustainable living can be both meaningful and desirable.

Organizations eligible to apply include public authorities, nonprofits, advocacy groups, research institutions, and private companies working on non-commercial projects. Proposals must be managed within the Danish Realm, and collaborative efforts that bridge sectors and promote collective learning are highly encouraged.

The selection process will prioritize projects that are novel, scalable, and capable of making a measurable impact in the short term—especially those with a clear vision for CO₂ reduction. Projects should also generate enthusiasm for sustainability, outline a solid theory of change, and show the potential for long-lasting influence beyond the project’s timeline.
