CFPs: Strengthening Community Networks to improve Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition (Guatemala)

The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has launched the call for proposals to identify technical partners with proven experience in community work who can contribute to consolidating local networks for health and nutrition promotion, support, and social participation in the priority municipalities of Alta Verapaz (Cobán and Panzós) and Totonicapán (Santa Lucía La Reforma and Momostenango).

Objective

• To strengthen community participation in promoting maternal and child health and nutrition through training and support for key community stakeholders (community managers, midwives, and adolescents), promoting their coordination with health services in priority municipalities of Alta Verapaz and Totonicapán

Expected Results

• Expected Outcome: Trained and deployed community managers and change agents strengthen the promotion of key health and nutrition practices, family support, and timely referrals in prioritized communities.
• Activities: Training and deployment of community managers:
  • Structured training in participatory methodologies and community participation, based on methodological guides for communication for social and behavior change (CCSyC), with a focus on appropriate maternal and child health and nutrition practices.
  • Assignment of a minimum of two managers per prioritized municipality, based on population coverage and areas of greatest vulnerability.
  • Provision of logistical resources to guarantee operational capacity, including a pilot and vehicle per team.
  • Ongoing technical support for community managers to ensure the quality of their work.
