The City of Shoreline is seeking applications for the Environmental Mini-Grants Program. The City of Shoreline offers grants up to $5,000 per application to individuals, community groups and business owners for projects that enhance the environment and promote environmental stewardship in the community.
Focus Areas
- Work Towards a Zero Waste Shoreline: To meet these criteria, proposals should address actions to reduce waste and conserve natural resources for present and future generations. Example projects include:
- Reduce solid waste and/or household hazardous waste generation;
- Increase recycling, composting and reuse of resources;
- Conserve energy;
- Conserve water;
- Educate the community about sustainability best practices.
- Support Reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions: To meet these criteria, proposals should address actions that reduce greenhouse gas emissions or increase community resilience to climate change. Example projects include:
- Plant trees to increase shade and absorb carbon dioxide;
- Install public bicycle racks or public electric vehicle charging stations;
- Install renewable energy infrastructure (such as solar panels) in areas deemed for public use;
- Educate the community about best practices and actions to address climate change Protect the Natural Environment.
- Protect their Natural Environment: To meet these criteria, proposals should address actions to protect and restore environmental quality and habitat. Example projects include:
- Prevent pollution, including water pollution;
- Encourage proper disposal of hazardous waste;
- Restore natural habitat;
- Educate the community about personal stewardship of Shoreline’s environment.
Criteria
- Projects must occur in areas deemed for public use.
- Projects must provide a tangible and measurable public benefit to the environment and community.
- Matching funds or volunteer hours are required for at least 20% of eligible project expenses.
- Matching funds must be demonstrated during the grant period.
- Projects must be completed within calendar year funds are awarded.
- Projects in a park will require approval from the Parks Department.
- One award per group/individual per year.
