The City of West Hollywood is pleased to offer the Transgender Arts Initiative Grant, a program initiated by the City Council in 2013 intended to support and enhance artwork to be presented or exhibited in West Hollywood by transgender artists.
Individual artists, artist collectives or groups, and non-profit organizations with a history of supporting transgender artists are all welcome to apply.
Grantees who are awarded funding are required to attend the West Hollywood Artist Bootcamp (6 sessions, 1 each month for 6 months). This highly sought-after program will provide grantees additional tools and resources essential to an artist’s professional growth.
Grant Program Purpose
The City has identified the following objectives for the Transgender Arts Initiative Grant:
- To encourage transgender artists and organizations to create innovative programming and artwork to be presented in the City of West Hollywood or immediately adjacent (within 5 blocks of the border of WestHollywood.).
- To provide tools and resources to assist transgender artists and organizations to develop their capacity to create and present their works.
- To support transgender artists with specific professional and business development activities that will aid in building capacity and maintaining sustainability.
Funding Information
- $25,000 Total amount of available funding in this category
- $ 6,500 Maximum award possible per grantee
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must plan to hold an art exhibit, performance or screening somewhere within the City of West Hollywood or immediately adjacent (within 5 blocks of the border of West Hollywood) within the calendar year 2021.
- Applicants must be able to demonstrate a significant commitment to and involvement with the West Hollywood community and/or LGBTQ community.
Evaluation Criteria
All applicants will be initially screened by staff to ensure compliance with the eligibility requirements. Applicants who do not meet these requirements will not be forwarded on to the grants panel for review. Projects will be evaluated based on:
- Overall merit of the application in fulfilling the Transgender Arts Initiative purpose (30 points).
- The potential impact of the grant on the applicant and community (25 points).
- Appropriateness and clarity of scope regarding the project or program to be funded (20 points).
- Ability to demonstrate how the proposed project assists in the advancement of transgender artists (25 points).
NOTE: Organizations whose business location is within the City of West Hollywood will receive a bonus of 4% points to their total score, per City policy.
