The NSW Government has announced the applications for the Clean Technology Research and Development Grants Program to invest in research and development of commercially viable technologies, services, or processes that have the potential to significantly reduce emissions of high emitting or hard-to-abate sectors within the NSW economy up to, and beyond, 2030.
Objectives
- The objectives of the grants are to:
- support and progress early stage clean technology research and development where a clear market opportunity has been identified
- promote collaboration and knowledge sharing.
- These objectives support the ultimate mission to create an environment in New South Wales where innovation is supported so new technologies are domestically developed, tested and used in the market. This will position New South Wales as a leading investment destination and unlocks export opportunities in coming decades.
Priorities
Priorities for 2021 are:
- Electrification and Energy Systems – accelerating renewable energy solutions and supporting the uptake of electrification in other sectors.
- Land and Primary Industries – coordinating and aligning efforts in the next wave of sustainable primary industry practices as the sector contributes significant proportions of NSW emissions.
- Power Fuels including Hydrogen – growing an environmentally sustainable NSW powerfuels industry and unlocking decarbonisation opportunities for many hard-to-abate sectors beyond 2030.
Funding Information
- Total Amount: $5 million
- Minimum Amount: $400,000
- Maximum Amount: $4 million
- Duration: 3 years
Eligibility Criteria
- The program is open to public and private sector organisations that have applied expertise in clean technology innovation. Each organisation may submit a maximum of three EOIs in 2021.
- Demonstrate that they are one of the following organisation types:
- an Australian entity duly incorporated under the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) (Corporations Act) and hold and comply with all necessary authorisations that are material to the conduct of the business of the applicant
- a public or private university duly established or recognised by or under the law of the Commonwealth Government of Australia, an Australian state or territory government and/or registered with the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency o a Commonwealth entity
- an Australian state- or territory-owned body corporate, or a subsidiary of an Australian state- or territory-owned body corporate
- an Australian state or territory local government or council
- an entity incorporated in Australia and a trading corporation, where their trading activities:
- form a sufficiently significant proportion of the entity’s overall activities as to merit it being described as a trading corporation
- are a substantial and not merely peripheral activity of the entity.
- To be eligible for funding, an application must demonstrate that the project:
- lead organisation is based in New South Wales and/or the environmental and economic benefits of the Project will be realised in New South Wales
- involves early stage development of low emissions technologies, services and/or processes for a hard-to-abate sector or high emitting industry that aligns with the program priority areas or (if your Project does not align with the program priority areas) you have discussed your Project with the Trust and they have advised you to proceed with a submission
- is expected to yield technologies, services and/or processes that – when commercialised and deployed – will have a large impact on emission reductions in New South Wales
- is currently ranked between Technology Readiness Levels (TRL)
- is expected to achieve key milestones with three years of commencement
- will adopt a net environment benefit principle, which includes considering (and seeking to minimise) negative environmental impacts of design and potential supply chains
- is seeking grant funds in the range of $400,000 and $4 million.
