The Casa Socioambiental Fund launches this call with resources from the GAGGA Alliance (Global Alliance for Green and Gender Action) and the Global Greengrants Fund (GGF).
The GAGGA Alliance (Global Alliance for Green and Gender Action) is a collective initiative led by the organizations Fondo Centroamericano de Mujeres, Mama Cash and Both ENDS. The Alliance operates in more than 30 countries in the Global South, in partnership with socio-environmental funds, women’s funds and local organizations that know the territories and contexts that affect them. GAGGA’s goal is to promote a world where women’s rights to water, food security and a clean, healthy and safe environment are recognized and respected.
This call aims to support local and traditional communities to build resilience in the face of climate change and initiatives led by women will be prioritized, with a view to strengthening the voices, leadership and resilience of women on the frontline of climate action.
General Objective
- This call aims to support projects that promote climate resilience as well as support inclusive, sustainable climate solutions with a focus on gender equity.
Support Lines
- Registered projects must fall within one of the following thematic lines:
- Line 1 – Institutional Strengthening – Strengthen internal capabilities and improve organizational conditions; improve equipment and management systems to develop and implement their strategies to combat climate change and structural violence that community-based organizations, led by women, trans, intersex and non-binary people experience in response to their work in defending their land, territory and environment.
- Line 2 – Advocacy – Strengthen the link and collaboration between mixed community-based organizations, led by women, trans, intersex and non-binary people and the climate, environmental justice and women’s rights movements, at various levels (local, regional and/or national), to carry out advocacy agendas for solutions for mitigation and adaptation to climate change.
- Line 3 – Forest Protection and Territorial Governance – Strengthen the capacity of communities to protect their territories and biomes. Management and monitoring actions; forest recovery; spring protection; strengthening social participation; valuing community participation in the protection and recovery of forests.
- Line 4 – Fair Climate Solutions – Fair Climate Solutions are solutions built on local and ancestral knowledge and/or incorporating appropriate new and innovative methods and technologies, which center leadership, sustainability and resilience for the benefit of communities disproportionately affected by effects of climate change. Some examples: encouraging renewable energy, new mobility services, more sustainable and resilient agri-food models, agroecology/food security, restoration, among others.
Eligible Projects
- Projects from organizations that do not have other projects running with the Casa Fund will be selected as a priority;
- Gender and Diversity – Organizations led by women, as well as projects led by women and that have a strong gender component in their actions.
- Organization projects that include the effective participation of women, both in the execution of project activities and in decision-making positions in organizations; attention to the right to self-care of women leaders;
- Projects presented by traditional communities;
- Projects presented by urban peripheral communities, local activist collectives, among others;
- Organizations and networks that work in partnership to address the climate, socioeconomic and environmental impacts of deforestation, mining and agribusiness on vulnerable communities and groups;
- Strategic organizations in the territories, which form part of support networks for Environmental Defenders.
Eligibility Criteria
- The following are considered eligible for this call for projects:
- Non-profit organizations in Brazil, legally constituted, that represent local or traditional communities, rural or urban, that develop activities with low impact on the environment. Example of local and traditional communities: Indigenous peoples, quilombolas, riverside dwellers, artisanal fishermen and women, shellfish gatherers, coconut breakers, gypsy people, caiçaras, extractivists, bottom and pasture communities, urban peripheral communities, local activist collectives, among others;
- Organizations with an institutional budget of up to R$300,000.00 in 2023;
- Organizations with up-to-date institutional documentation sent along with the narrative form and project budget;
- Organizations that do not have a CNPJ are also eligible and can present projects in this Call through a partner organization.
