The Community-Based Violence Intervention and Prevention Initiative Research and Evaluation Program support independent, rigorous evaluations of projects funded under the OJP CVIPI that inform policy and practice, as well as research that builds knowledge to support community-based violence intervention and prevention initiatives.

Program Goals and Objectives

• Goal
  • The National Institute of Justice Research, Evaluation, and Development Project Grants program fosters the development of new knowledge and tools that can be applied to reduce crime and advance justice, particularly at the state and local level.
• Objectives:
  • Develop, demonstrate, and evaluate programs and practices relevant to criminal justice, juvenile justice, and crime victims’ services outcomes.
  • Identify and analyze the causes and correlates of crime.
  • Improve the functioning of the criminal and juvenile justice systems.
  • Develop new methods for the prevention and reduction of crime.
  • Develop new methods to detect, investigate, and prosecute crime.
  • Enhance the justice research infrastructure.

Categories

• This NOFO includes two funding categories:
  • Category 1. NIJ is interested in funding Site-Based Evaluations of Programs funded under the OJP fiscal year (FY) FY22, FY23, and FY24 CVIPI NOFOs.
  • Category 2. NIJ is interested in funding Other Community-Violence Evaluations and Research in three topic areas:
    • A National Survey of CVIPI programs,
    • The Role(s) of Women in Community-based Violence, and
    • Research of Small Capacity CVIPI Programs.

• Total Amount to Be Awarded Under This Funding Opportunity: $6 million
  • C-NIJ-2025-00005-PROD, Category 1: Site-Based Evaluations of Programs Funded Under the OJP FY22, FY23, and FY24 CVIPI NOFOs.
    • Anticipated Award Ceiling: $1.2 million.
    • Anticipated Period of Performance Duration: Up to 60 months
  • C-NIJ-2025-00006-PROD, Category 2: Other Community-Violence Evaluations and Research.
    • Anticipated Award Ceiling: $1 million.
    • Anticipated Period of Performance Duration: Up to 60 months.
