Transcend is pleased to launch the Community-Led Education Initiatives Fund to support community-driven initiatives to catalyze extraordinary, equitable educational experiences in mid-size and smaller cities or rural areas across the US.
This initiative supports their belief that communities, while often under resourced, are best positioned to identify their own needs and lead the most promising change efforts.
Grants will provide financial support to existing or emergent community-driven initiatives to help accelerate change. This fund is supported by the Walton Family Foundation. Transcend will incorporate participatory grant-making to ensure communities are actively involved in the selection decisions.
Funding Information
Approximately five grants of up to $400,000 each to accelerate impact in education.
Eligibility Criteria
- Have an existing or emerging initiative meant to have a specific impact on the educational experiences of young people in the United States.
- Show a demonstrated commitment to working with the community to help make decisions about the initiative and to ensuring that their decision-making body reflects the community that is being served
- Show a demonstrated commitment to one or more of the leaps listed under Transcend's Leaps for Equitable, 21st Century Learning.
- Have the infrastructure to ensure that their initiative comes to fruition
- In order to be eligible, applicants must prove that they have the infrastructure to support a grant of this size.

This means that you have a clear vision and plan for success that includes:
- staffing plan
- Budget considerations
- Operational supports
- Future sustainability plans

Be a nonprofit organization, government entity or individual with established fiscal sponsorship Examples include
- A school, district, or agency
- A nonprofit organization or an individual with a 501(c) (3) fiscal sponsor
- A nonprofit organization or an individual with 501(c) (3) status
- Note: preference will be given to organizations based in mid-sized and smaller cities, or rural areas. They don't have a specific definition for 'mid-sized and smaller cities, or rural areas'. While all organizations are welcome to apply, they're prioritizing grants to communities that don't typically receive a large amount of investment from national philanthropies.
