The City of Sydney is currently accepting applications for the Community Services Grants (Covid-19 Recovery Grants).
This grant supports programs or projects that respond to ongoing community need including food security, digital inclusion, social isolation, tenancy support and homelessness services.
Funding Priorities
The following applications will be prioritised:
- Initiatives that build capacity and empower the community to address sustainable food security;
- Collective impact approaches with multiple organisations partnering to achieve a shared goal;
- Programs that meet the needs of and are led by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples;
- Programs that support vulnerable community groups including temporary visa holders, social housing residents and people at risk of or experiencing homelessness.
Funding Information
- Funding is available in amounts from $5,000 up to $50,000 cash.
Outcomes
Initiatives and projects can contribute to one or more of these outcomes:
- Increased access to food and essential items;
- Reducing disadvantage and increasing access to opportunities;
- Increased participation in community and civic life and local decision making;
- Increased engagement in healthy, active living including mental health;
- Increased community capacity to address local needs/opportunities;
- Strengthened social cohesion, sense of belonging and connection to place.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for funding an applicant must operate within the area or be able to demonstrate benefits for the residents, businesses, workers or visitors.
These individuals and organisations can apply:
- Not-for-profit organisations including social enterprises.
- Individuals or unincorporated community groups auspiced by a not-for-profit that is eligible to apply in their own right.
- Where multiple organisations are partnering together and making an application, one lead applicant must apply and manage the overall project and any funding awarded.
- Applicant eligibility is determined by ABN registration.
- Funding is not available for:
- Projects that contravene the eligibility and ethics framework or existing policies;
- Projects or programs that will rely on recurrent future funding;
- Applicants located outside the area and unable to demonstrate a majority of services are provided for the local community;
- Projects that cannot demonstrate the ability to provide safe working methods or adherence to relevant government restrictions;
- Individuals who are not Australian citizens, permanent residents or who do not have permission to work in Australia;
- Capital expenditure over $10,000 – funding for additional capital expenditure may be requested and considered on a case-by-case basis and with a strong justification, equipment up to a cost of $10,000 may also be eligible.
Assessment Criteria
Applications are assessed against the expected project outcomes, the types of activities supported and their overarching grantmaking principles and ethics.
The assessment panel will also consider the following:
- Services or goods that support those most vulnerable in the community;
- Opportunity, need or demand the goods or services;
- Capabilities or skills to respond to the current economic and social situation (including the ability to maintain safe working environments);
- Networks and professional experience relevant to the local area’s social services sectors;
- Ability to be able to deliver within a short time frame to meet immediate community needs;
- Alignment with the program’s funding priorities and outcomes.
