The City of Onkaparinga has launched the Community Training and Development Grants Program to provide funding to assist community groups who have strategically identified training needs for their volunteer committees, to give leaders access to governance training, development opportunities or undertake conference opportunities.

Purpose
The Community Grants – Community Training and Development Grants provide funding to encourage community participation, support the advancement of local groups, and build the skills of individuals who are part of local community groups. It aligns with the Community Plan 2030 theme of ‘People’ (Their communities are connected, engaged and resilient, and their communities are active and healthy), strategic plans including (but not limited to) the Community Capacity Strategic Plan 2021–24, Inclusive Communities Action Plan 2021–2024, Arts and Cultural Development Action Plan 2021–25.
Objectives
The Community Training and Development Grant contributes to increasing:
- the skills and knowledge of volunteer community group leaders
- opportunities for community group leaders to learn from, share knowledge and make connections with other community group leaders
- the skills, knowledge and leadership capability within their local communities.
Priorities
- training or conferences that contribute to a group’s further governance development
- groups that can demonstrate the benefit of the training or conference to the wider community
- training or conference activities being provided by a registered training organisation
- organisations with their main office located within their city
- applications that support groups delivering programs/activities based in areas experiencing disadvantage (i.e. based on Socio-Economic Indexes for Areas (SEIFA)).
Funding Information
Grants of up to $1500 are available.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applications must be submitted at least four weeks prior to the training/development opportunity commencing.
- Only one successful application is permitted per organisation in each funding round.
- Who can apply:
- not-for-profit organisations
- unincorporated groups who apply through an appropriate ‘not for profit’ incorporated body that supports the application and is willing to accept responsibility for the funding
- do not have an overdue grant acquittal with City of Onkaparinga
- must not have already received funding from this grant in the current funding round
- must not already receive funding through other sources for volunteer training and development.
- Additional requirements:
- You can only submit one application for this grant.
- Groups wishing to send members under 18 years old on international, interstate, or intrastate training or conferences can apply provided:
- it can be demonstrated that there will be adequate supervision to ensure safety
- travel and accommodation arrangements are viewed as appropriate
- a parent or guardian has signed the relevant disclaimer provided with the application form.
Ineligible
- Businesses
- Schools
- Elected members and employees of the City of Onkaparinga must not be involved in the development of a grant application and are not eligible
