The Gwaii Trust Society is now inviting applications for its Continuing Education Grant: Short-Term Courses to encourage all Haida Gwaii residents to pursue educational opportunities of all kinds, both on and off-island.
This grant can help cover the cost of tuition and course materials for courses at recognized universities, colleges, and trades programs, including online courses. Short-term courses are defined as courses that take less than three months to complete.
Funding Information
- Up to $3,750 a year, or a maximum of five courses to a maximum of $750 per course. Funding will be based on the actual cost of your course and materials.
Eligible uses of the Grant
- Tuition for recognized universities, colleges, and trades programs, including online courses that result in credits towards a certificate, diploma or degree.
- Course materials
- Short-term courses that take less than three months to complete (for long-term courses click here)
- This grant is open to:
- mature students.
- recent high school graduates.
- full-time and part-time students.
Ineligible uses of the Grant
- Workshops, professional fees, conferences, seminars, webinars, symposiums, forums, apprenticeships, one-on-one coaching and consultant fees.
- Courses without tuition.
- Courses taken at non-recognized post-secondary institutions.

Eligibility Criteria
- Individual residents.
- For the purposes of this grant, residents are defined as people who have lived on Haida Gwaii for the past 24 consecutive months. A student who has left Haida Gwaii to attend school but otherwise maintains their residency is considered a resident.
