The Oregon Humanities is currently accepting applications for the COVID-19 Emergency Sustaining the Humanities through the American Rescue Plan (SHARP) Grants to prevent, prepare for, respond to, and/or recover from the coronavirus.
This funding is intended to help the humanities community recover from the economic burdens of the pandemic, enable the reopening of humanities institutions and programs, and support the retention of the humanities workforce.
Funding Priorities
Oregon Humanities is committed to funding organizations across Oregon that have been affected by the COVID-19 National Emergency. Knowing that they have limited grant funds to award and are committed to funding organizations and communities that have historically been underserved, they prioritize funding to the following:
- Organizations based in and led by rural communities
- Organizations led by Black, Indigenous and/or People of Color (BIPOC) communities
Type of Grants
- SHARP General Operating Support Grants: Available for humanities-focused organizations only. These grants support general operating costs. Eligible applicants can submit grant applications for up to a $20,000 grant award.
- SHARP Project Support Grants: Available to any organization creating humanities-focused projects or programs, even if they are not primarily humanities-focused in mission. Eligible applicants can submit grant applications for up to a $20,000 grant award.
Eligibility Criteria
- SHARP General Operating Support Grants: This grant is open to humanities-focused organizations in the following categories that have been financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic:

- Oregon nonprofit organizations (as reported to the IRS and with an existing EIN) with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status
- Accredited public and 501(c)(3) institutions of higher education
- State and local government agencies
- Federally recognized Native American tribal governments
- SHARP Project Support Grants: This grant is open to any organizations in the following categories that have been financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic:
- Oregon nonprofit organizations (as reported to the IRS and with an existing EIN) with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status
- Accredited public and 501(c)(3) institutions of higher education
- State and local government agencies
- Federally recognized Native American tribal governments
