The Creative New Zealand is accepting applications for the 2020 Nga Toi a Rohe – Arts in the Regions Fund to incentivise local and regional investment in the development and presentation of new local arts activity outside the main centres of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
The Fund aims to:
- increase investment in the arts by local and regional partners
- develop high-quality arts by, with and/or for local and regional communities
- increase engagement (attendance and/or participation) in high-quality arts experiences by local and regional communities outside the main centres.
The Fund will support new projects that:
- focus on collaborative, high-quality work or high-quality arts experiences by, with and/or for the local community.
- provide evidence of new investment in the arts by local stakeholders (this can be in-kind)
- include authentic engagement with the community as part of the project e.g. consultation, research, delivery.
- directly benefit New Zealand arts, artists, practitioners or communities outside Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
Funding Information
Grant amount: Up to $150,000
Eligibility Criteria
- New Zealand organisations within the region or local centre where the project will take place (excluding Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch cities, as defined by Auckland Council, Wellington City and Christchurch City Council boundaries).
- The project must take place in centres outside Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
- Key creative personnel must live in and/or whakapapa to the locality in which the project will take place. Exceptions to this can include non-local creative personnel working collaboratively with local arts practitioners to build the capability of the local arts ecosystem.
- The project must be a new activity.
- The project must be collaborative.
- The project must be by, with and/or for the local community.
- Investment in the project from local stakeholders must be new.
Benefits
To be eligible for Creative New Zealand funding:
- Your project or activities must directly benefit New Zealand arts, artists or practitioners.
- You must have a track record of experience and success — this means you must have:
- recognition from peers or experts
- achieved a degree of critical or sales success
- specialised training or practical experience.
Applications to the Fund must include at least two letters of support:
- A letter from at least one local creative partner that outlines their role within the project e.g. arts practitioners, arts development agency etc, and
- A letter from the major local stakeholder that confirms the nature of the investment in the project and that it is new investment.
