DanChurchAid (DCA) has launched a call for expressions of interest for Prospective Partnerships in Kenya.
Partnership is a founding principle of DCA, a way of working that is fundamental to their values and identity. In this regard, DCA works closely with faith-based and other civil society partners, to break new ground in their partnerships, in order to make the greatest possible difference in the world. Their fundamental belief in partnerships, constructive dialogue and cooperation also means that DCA works together with many stakeholders other than civil society partners.
DCA envisions a world without hunger, poverty, or oppression where political and popular powers work for a just and sustainable use and distribution of resources by achieving the following goals:
- Save lives: DCA is committed to intervene when individuals and communities are affected by crises and natural disasters by ensuring timely humanitarian and emergency response, distribution of aid especially through cash-based intervention, assisting local disaster risk reduction and emergency preparedness, and educating on and engaging in mine action.
- Build resilient communities: DCA supports in ensuring sustainable development for communities across the globe by focusing on global advocacy, local disaster risk reduction and building the resilience of vulnerable communities through facilitating sustainable livelihoods, job opportunities and empowerment of local stakeholders.
- Fight extreme inequality: Within this goal, DCA aims to build the capacities of civil societies, Civil Society Organization (CSOs) and human rights defenders, promote human rights and support inclusive decision-making processes as well as strong, accountable, and responsible institutions.
Streams
- Stream 1: Youth led and focused climate action.
- Objectives & possible interventions: Under this stream, actions that empower urban and peri-urban youth to act as agents of change and influence decisions that affect their life including climate governance and financial inclusion will be supported. Specifically, the following (but not exhaustive) interventions are envisaged:
- Strengthening youth participation in relevant value chains and market-driven livelihoods with a green growth bias.
- Enhancing financial inclusion for youth, digitization in the financial inclusion space, and collaboration with financial service providers.
- Youth focused programming aimed at enhancing their participation in decision making, climate governance and financial inclusion.
- Focus on female youth for economic empowerment and gender equality.
- Eligible target area(s): Urban & peri-urban areas around one or more major cities of Nakuru, Nairobi, Kisumu, Eldoret & Mombasa.
- Timeframe: Short 6 to 9 months project implemented between March – December 2024.
- Indicative Budget: Between DKK 200,000 – 400,000 (approximately KES 4,000,000 – 8,000,000).
- Number of Awards: 1 to 2.
- Objectives & possible interventions: Under this stream, actions that empower urban and peri-urban youth to act as agents of change and influence decisions that affect their life including climate governance and financial inclusion will be supported. Specifically, the following (but not exhaustive) interventions are envisaged:
- Stream 2: Innovative clean, accessible energy solutions
- Objectives & possible interventions: Under this stream, actions that seek to alleviate energy poverty will be supported. Specifically, the following are envisaged:
- Interventions seeking to ensure access to clean, reliable, modern, affordable, and sustainable energy, with a bias towards clean cooking, reducing pollution, utilisation of renewable energy sources.
- Interventions focused on design, distribution, and financing of solar, greener, products to rural, off-grid communities.
- Strengthening women participation in relevant value chains and market-driven/sustainable livelihoods with a green growth bias.
- Target area(s): Nairobi, Turkana, West Pokot, Elgeyo Marakwet & Baringo counties
- Timeframe: Short 6 to 9 months project implemented between March – December 2024.
- Indicative Budget: Between DKK 200,000 – 400,000 (approximately KES 4,000,000 – 8,000,000).
- Number of Awards: 1 to 2.
- Objectives & possible interventions: Under this stream, actions that seek to alleviate energy poverty will be supported. Specifically, the following are envisaged:
- Stream 3: Blue economy – value chains contributing to livelihoods in aquatic ecosystems
- Objectives & possible interventions: Under this stream, actions will be supported that empower communities that live in aquatic ecosystems to incentivise conservation and realise maximum benefits from sustainable utilisation of their natural resources. Specifically, the following are envisaged:
- Interventions seeking to enhance conservation and sustainable utilization of resources in aquatic ecosystems.
- Interventions creating opportunities to spur local economic growth and deliver quick and sustainable results for better livelihoods, food security and employment creation within a broader framework of resilience building.
- Interventions that support development of smallholder aquaculture and priority fisheries value chains for small scale artisanal fishers for nutrition and food security, environmentally sound development and resilience building to climate change
- Eligible target area(s): Kenyan coastal region & Lake Victoria basin.
- Timeframe: Short 6 to 9 months project implemented between March – December 2024.
- Indicative Budget: Between DKK 200,000 – 400,000 (approximately KES 4,000,000 – 8,000,000).
- Number of Awards: 1 to 2.
- Objectives & possible interventions: Under this stream, actions will be supported that empower communities that live in aquatic ecosystems to incentivise conservation and realise maximum benefits from sustainable utilisation of their natural resources. Specifically, the following are envisaged:
Eligibility Criteria
- To be eligible for this call, an entity should;
- Be a locally registered non-profit Kenyan organisation (association, foundation, cooperative, faith-based organisation, community-based organization, network association, company limited by guarantee) registered for at least three years by the Kenyan authorities and with an operational bank account in the applicant’s name.
- Demonstrate an established record of achievements through the implementation of projects in the specified geographical areas and in relation to the thematic focus of this call.
- Be willing to undergo due diligence, including a company screening to ensure alignment with the highest international standards on responsible business conduct principles and practices; counter-terror, and anti-money laundering screening in line with DCA’s global partnership requirements.
- Be willing to undergo a partner assessment and financial capacity assessment to assess any potential risks and guide any subsequent capacity strengthening and organizational development needs of the partner.
- Important to note;
- Partners who do not have the capacity or the possibility of complying with these requirements, such as social movements and other groups of informal actors, can access financial support from DCA through other lighter modalities, including the Flexible Financial Support or the Human Rights Defenders Fund. They should none the less make an application accordingly.
- It will be considered favourable if:
- For stream 1, the applicant is a CBO & youth led.
- For stream 2, the applicants are social enterprises (and/or will engage private sector actors) and have women leadership in their management.
- For stream 3, the applicant will proactively engage private sector actors in their interventions
- Activities targeted at persons abled differently are included in the proposed intervention/project, regardless of the stream area.
Ineligible
- The following are Not eligible:
- International organizations.
- Partners current engaged by DCA in Kenya.
