U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is accepting applications to improve and strengthen the Nigerian National Public Health Institutes management capacity and public health functions.

Recurring infectious disease outbreaks, Nigeria’s population, inadequate allocation to healthcare in annual appropriations, inadequate surveillance, weakened or non-existent health infrastructure and systems and poor coordination among stakeholder agencies have all contributed to the weaknesses highlighted in the JEE. This impacts on the country’s preparedness to respond to public health emergencies. The purpose of this NOFO is to provide technical assistance and support the ability of the NPHI to implement programs focusing on protecting and improving health through addressing the gaps and weaknesses identified in the JEE.

This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) seeks to solicit for a collaborative partnerships with NCDC primarily to strengthen its systems and develop the workforce to lead IHR (2005) implementation. It consolidates and builds on the scope of activities previously implemented under the following awards GH1814, GH1237 and GH1632 to develop and/or strengthen national public health systems in countries by consolidating and organizing public health expertise and systems within an NPHI. This will enhance country’s capacity to carry out essential public health functions and improve accountability and efficiency.
