Deadline: 7 September 2018
The U.S Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), National Institutes of Health (NIH) is seeking applications for its grant program entitled “HIV/AIDS High Priority Drug Abuse Research.”
The goal of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to stimulate high priority research relevant to drug abuse and HIV/AIDS. Because drug abusers are frequently vulnerable and marginalized, optimization of the seek, test, treat, and retain (STTR) paradigm for diverse domestic and international settings is critically important for reducing health disparities in HIV incidence and treatment outcomes in drug using populations.
Criminal justice populations have high rates of HIV infection and substance use disorders and are an important population for STTR implementation studies. In the U.S., minorities are disproportionately represented in criminal justice populations leading to adverse effects on the individual, family, and community that may contribute to the spread of HIV. Studies are needed on how best to implement test, treat, and retain in prison and jail settings and then link released prisoners to care in the community.
