DHHS/NIH: Uncovering the Causes, Contexts & Consequences of Elder Mistreatment

Law Enforcement Agency De-Escalation Grants Program (US)

Deadline: 20 October 2017

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), National Institutes of Health (NIH) is seeking applications for its program “Uncovering the Causes, Contexts, and Consequences of Elder Mistreatment”.

The purpose of this program is to seek applications proposing research that can lead to advancements in the understanding of elder mistreatment (emotional abuse, physical abuse, and sexual abuse; financial exploitation; abandonment; and neglect) and lay the foundation for the future design of mechanistically focused interventions for individuals at risk for mistreating elders, for promoting recovery and resilience in the maltreated and their families, and for preventing re-perpetration for those who have inflicted harm.

All applications should propose evidence-based strategies for addressing ethical challenges surrounding informed consent and study design in the research proposed, and to employ, when possible, best practices established in the fields of child abuse and neglect and/or intimate partner violence.
