The Department of Human Services (DHS) has launched grant applications for organisations with socially inclusive projects or programs focused on building practical skills for employment and volunteering.
Social inclusion for all is an ongoing priority of the Department of Human Services and has a key role in strengthening communities. Creating a socially inclusive society supports a safer, stable, and just community. It will promote economic growth, lead to positive health and wellbeing outcomes for all South Australians and encourage meaningful and positive connections within the community.
This Grants SA Funding round will enhance inclusion for all in projects or programs focused on building practical skills for employment and volunteering. Strengthening inclusive practices will improve pathways to greater economic security for vulnerable and disadvantaged communities in South Australia.
This funding is designed to complement, not replace, training and support programs offered through the Commonwealth Government’s Jobs Skills Australia Agency or individual employment goals supported through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
Funding Information
- This funding opportunity is a one-off grant of up to $50,000 available to support initiatives, projects and programs delivered to build confidence, skills, and opportunities to engage in employment or volunteering. This may include, but is not limited to:
- Building digital connectivity and capability for public access in communities, such as Wi-Fi connectivity in regional and remote areas, IT equipment for training, and community inclusion and participation, digital literacy for priority focus groups.
- Providing equipment and resources to deliver or expand on-the-job training opportunities.
- Improving Access to information and resources with the development of formats including Easy Reads, First Nations languages and video resumes.
- Support for delivery of Learners License driving programs for learners from the priority focus groups to gain on road driving experience.
- Providing equipment and resources to develop or expand Social Enterprises.
- Building the inclusive practices of organisations. Examples could include Cultural Sensitivity/Cultural Competence training, Diversity training, Rainbow Tick accreditation, Autism Awareness training.
- Access improvements including ramps, installation of handrails, automatic doors, office, and bathroom modifications.
Priority Focus Groups
- The priority focus for Grants SA funding is determined by whether a prospective applicants proposal identifies as supporting one (or more) of the following priority focus groups who may face additional barriers to accessing services:
- Aboriginal peoples.
- People from new and emerging culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities.
- People with disability with a focus on those not currently supported through the NDIS
- LGBTIQA+ people.
- People who are financially disadvantaged.
- People residing in communities identified as places where persistent and/or relative location-based disadvantage exists (including rural/remote).
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible ApplicantsÂ
- To be eligible to apply, organisations must be:
- an Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisation,
- other not-for-profit organisation ,
- Be incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Act 1985, or the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006, or have evidence of a comparable legal status, such as Australian Public Company limited by guarantee.
- Be a social enterprise that holds a current certification with Social Traders.
- All applicants must:
- be currently operating within South Australia, and recipients of the program/service/initiative are residents of South Australia
- be currently registered with a valid and eligible Australian Business Number (ABN)
- Have an Australian bank account in the name of the applicant.
